This entire article and some clarifications in the comments make me feel sick. This entire story is fucked up and i wish I hadn’t read it. Poor child is traumatised for life

Sadder still, society will expect her get over it and carry on. Society doesn’t understand that there’s no “normal” for her any more.

What’s even weirder is that they gave the mother 7 consecutive life sentences, but the father who actually impregnated the child only got 1 life sentence + 42 years.

Jesus, that’s a bad headline. She wasn’t sentenced for the home birth; she was sentenced for her part and cover-up of her husband raping and impregnating their daughter. The lack of proper medical care is just part of the cover-up.

A 34-year-old Oklahoma mother will spend the rest of her life behind bars for allowing her husband to impregnate her 11-year-old daughter, then forcing the child to give birth at home without any medical care.

This headline made my eyes want to punch my brain in the throat for being made to read it.

Such a difference between this and Epstein, while the subject of sexual abuse of minors is roughly the same. I guess the lesson is, if you’re gonna rape and pillage, first be filthy rich.

Really? Come on. That’s quite a stretch you’re making here - really grasping at straws to assume they might have voted for anyone other than Trump. The nerve.

No it can be just non political where the republican is too moderate so they don’t vote or only vote for a random third party. There are plenty of hard right people that don’t vote especially in deep red or non competitive areas.

He got 87 years, a life sentence plus 42 years, consecutively. His life sentence won’t even begin until he’s been in prison for 42 years.

Article says he was sentenced to life+42 years before her. Good thing Trump’s got pardon powers, huh? 🤮

Presidential pardons can’t touch state-level convictions, only federal. That said, there’s nothing stopping the Oklahoma governor from issuing a pardon…

It wouldn’t be the first time Trump has leaned on a governor to pardon someone. That said, this is surely low even for him… Right?

Just another reason to make home “schooling” illegal. It enables abuse on so many levels.

You want to home school? No problem. Just need to make sure your home is up to the same standards as regular school.

      • Teacher with a master’s degree (depending on state)
      • ADA compliant with wheelchair access (so the inspectors can get in if they’re in a wheelchair of course!)
      • Kid still needs to take the same standardized exams as every other kid at the school.
      • Everyone in the home has to be up to date on vaccinations.
      • Everyone in the home must undergo a thorough background check.
      • Regular welfare visits since the child can’t be regularly observed by state employees five days a week.

That would still missing the key issue here: regular contact with children of the same age group.

i grew up homeschooled with extreme abuse, and have been saying this for years. i have gotten a surprising amount of pushback for it, even by friends who i consider progressive. it’s strange

oh, and the adult administering the curriculum must be licensed to teach in that state and keep up with licensing. (my mom had the equivalent of a self taught 3rd grade level education)

Good luck getting any of that done if they claim they’re a “religious teaching institution.”
