Fetterman is looking to swap sides after the midterms to help prevent a Dem Senate. I expect he’ll be well compensated for his rat fuck behavior.
I mean the R’s aren’t going to have him. Why would you put someone onto your bench when their first and immediate next step will be to catch an L?
Fetterman loses his next election, regardless of the team he’s on. He can’t wont win as a republican, he can’t wont win as a democrat. Republicans are just using the ogres club for all its really good for right now. He’ll be cast aside in a moment.
He can’t wont win as a republican
Actually he might depending on how the political winds blow by 2028. I can’t find it now but I recently came across a graph of Fetterman’s approval rating with Democrats and Republics and the former declines while the latter climbs such that the sum of the two is basically flat. He could legitimately do it. See these figures from earlier this year; he has a very respectable approval rating.
No. He can’t win as a republican. If you think that, you’ve missed how politics works in 2016 and beyond.
Whoever runs him, if they choose to do so, loses the election.
I’m assuming approval ratings could translate readily enough to primary votes. I could be wrong, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.
I mean they can still use him to deny the Democrats a majority if the election is really close. And if it’s a draw then Vance is the tie breaker vote.
Plus there is plenty of precedent for dems defecting when it counts, like LIeberman, but there are others, above guy doesn’t know what he is talking about here.
Republicans are dirty tricksters, have been my entire life. Democrats their bitch sadly.
If the Democrats win an extra seat, they should double dog dare him to switch. Make him Chairman of the committee for naming post offices.
Committee chairmanships are generally given by seniority. That’s why they want octogenarian senators in safe seats: to give them control of committees.
A huge part of why we have so many ancient legislators.
I remember them changing the rules so Strom Thurmond could be rolled into the chambers and prop a hand in the air to have a filibuster.
Now it’s just an aide sending an email.
They’ve removed committee assignments from members who do dumb things before
When’s he up for re-election? 2028?
Yes, elected in 2022, so 2028, during the big one.
Oh gosh, now he’s done it. stern words are a brewin’!
I’ll never understand why people think a party controlling politicians is ideal…
Voters should control politicians, and especially for Senators recall votes should be a thing
Shouldn’t you be in a thread some where apologizing on behalf of Ken Martin?
Parties are a useful shorthand for their beliefs. It would be an unreasonable burden for voters to have to do the level if research required for all elections if there were no parties.
Further, national, statewide or even local government would not function as efficiently as there would be groups of people without agreement at every level.
Oh no! Are they going to… write a letter?
Best they can do
If he runs unopposed as a Democrat every VBNMW clown will cast a vote for him
VBlueNMWho has always just been about browbeating progressives and reformers into supporting the controlled opposition though. Without changing the leadership and direction of the party, nothing matters in the medium to long term sadly. It’s undeniable at this point.
The moderates as they are called, or dem sheep as they are coloquially known, will vote for him, probably in the primary too. They are maybe a third of the electorate, another third progressives, the other third having lower engagement and going along with what they think is the safe choice.
