Some of the worst people in the country. I was raised evangelical, even the folks I know who were decent on an interpersonal level would never consider voting for anyone other than Republicans.

You say the people in the cult became even more cult-y? wow, go figure.

I s’pose this is also a great way of showing all future democratic candidates, there is literally no point in trying to appeal to these hateful ignorant pricks. Stop trying to go right to appease these nutjobs, you’ll never be right enough for them. Go left instead, and find the majority of the American people waiting for you.

The country is still underestimating the damage fundamentalist White Supremacist christian extremism can and will do.

The terrorism will be ongoing for years, even decades.

Other people will rightly focus on the evangelical part, but I want to emphasize how important “whiteness” is to the equation. Black Christians don’t do this shit.

The through-line of Trump support is white supremacy. And white evangelical Christianity has a well known problem with white supremacy and white/Christian nationalism.

It’s vexing why Christians would admire Trump in the first place because he’s just about the opposite of everything they claim to value. But if you think of them as white supremacists first, everything makes perfect sense.

100%. It’s unfortunate that more attention isn’t paid to the “Southern Strategy” - started by Nixon but honed and perfected by Reagan. It was basically a massive counter-revolution where whites hated that black Americans were granted civil rights, marginally improved economic standing, and more broadly there’s at least an attempt to put whites and blacks on an equal footing. This sort of white supremacy was sort of laundered through evangelical Christianity but yes, it’s whiteness first. The “Moral Majority” began as movement to fight the government from removing the tax-exempt status for private Christian schools that practiced racial segregation, for example. While white evangelical Christianity does predate the reaction to the Civil Rights movement, I think it’s fair to say that this white supremacy is the foundation for modern white evangelicalism.

I guarantee that if they fucking ban fox news from playing on US military bases then there would be a major shift on veterans.

The change in men under 30 is impressive. The question is whether that’s a lasting change.

The reason that former US allies are still not going to trust the US after this vote is that after the absolute shit-show that is a Trump presidency with a GOP house and GOP senate, 50% of American men are STILL voting Republican.

And, that’s the vote. That’s not the people who couldn’t bring themselves to vote for the GOP this time, but stayed home rather than vote Democratic.

It’s just a matter of time before the US swings back to MAGA again. If that happens the US might once again renege on its treaties, threaten allies, start wars, and break international laws.

That group is voting on the fact that their economic horizons have become so limited (job market sucks, housing prices are way too high, etc). If Democrats can address those concerns, it could be lasting. If they don’t I imagine they could whipsaw back to Republicans.

That’s kind of the answer for everyone. We’ve just been bouncing back and forth between the two parties because neither has reversed the decline in people’s economic outlook. The system, left in place, makes life worse for almost everyone and our choices have been between “lies and then nothing happens” and “lies and accelerates the decline”. Since they both let (or encourage) the decline, whoever can more credibly lie, usually whoever isn’t in power, gets the vote.

Evangelicals believe HARD in an end time prophecy and think jesus will personally hoover them up to heaven before bringing suffering to earth to punish the rest of us for our wicked ways. Evangelical think they are special. More special then everyone else. More important then anyone else. That’s why they “know” jesus will personally rapture them to heaven and they are willing to kill humanity for the privilege. They really think they are god’s favored and actively try to make certain events happen to move the prophecy along. They don’t give a fuck about the future, or climate change, or preventing WWIII because in their minds the world ending is a good thing because it means jesus will come back - they want armageddon.

I grew up in an evangelical household. I was taught all the jews have to return to Isreal where they will die, the “good” christians will get raptured, and the rest of us heathens will earn hell on earth before dying horribly. They spend a large amount of time ruminating on this future they want to bring about. All religious sects have issues, but only one has a world ending death wish and has infested the US government which happens to have the biggest military on earth. That’s a problem.

In theory, it’s a subset of Protestantism that’s more concerned with evangelism (sharing the gospel and converting others), as well as a couple of other doctrinal distinctions, than the “Mainline.” Evangelicals and Mainline together make up Protestants; Protestants, Orthodox, and Catholics together make up Christians.

In practice, at least in the US, “evangelical” seems to have come to mean “activist;” as in, politically right-wing.

Christian’s supporting a devil, Christ would be very disappointed. Shame on them for supporting an orange faced demon that initiates unjustified wars, orders his own innocent people to be killed, strips the rights of the people, encourages poisoning of the people, televises executions, and does it all for profit, notoriety, and fear mongering.

    Shame on them.

That seems to show a shift of one point, and it’s based on exit polls, which will probably have a bigger margin of error than that. The bottom text even says “subject to final weighting”.
