Not counting the token patrons, 1Password and 37signals are the only corporate patrons; most patrons are individuals who happen to have a company listed under their name. The head of a company contributing money isn’t quite the same as them having their company contribute money.

The only other corporate sponsor is 37signals, a company DHH is already involved with, so 1Password is kind of the first company to step in this particular shit. Maybe they can serve as a warning to other companies.

You can make a multi line quote show up as one quote block by putting 2 spaces at the end of each line. Blank lines need the > plus the spaces.

I said somewhere else that giving money to a distro won’t even have an ROI, but I didn’t know about this. If the distro is promoting their product that’s a whole other thing.

Nonetheless, it seems the company has sacrificed a moral position for a “mission-driven” position. In the same message to staff, Faugno says “the scale and growth of [Omarchy’s] use among our customers is significant - Omarchy has grown to be the second most used Linux distribution among 1Password users."

I didn’t know Omarchy existed until, like, yesterday, so this is surprising. Do 1Password users just tend not to use Linux, so second place isn’t many users?

The translation later is called Rosetta 2 (Rosetta 1 having been for the PowerPC to Intel transition), and it looks like it’s mostly going away next year, so buying a Mac with the intention of using it would probably be a bad idea at this point.

Nitpick: I’m pretty sure my Windows copy of LibreOffice has an update checker that talks to a remote server. On Bazzite the flatpak gets auto-updated, so if flatpak LO has its own update checker I’ve never seen it.

The $5B is the conditional bit:

And this gist of the article is that a lot of that would violate the First Amendment if the government forced Meta to do it, and putting it in a settlement instead of a law and making it an “industry standard” is just a way for the government to get around that.

In a post on the Microsoft 365 Admin portal (I am glad it’s not renamed yet), the company notes that “Microsoft 365 Roadmap is becoming the AI at Work Roadmap,” as it “centralizes AI-powered innovation tracking without changing access or workflows.”

They didn’t rename a product. They renamed a roadmap to make it more general. That’s not that bad; certainly nothing worth doomposting about.

The video was a clip from the 2017 film Darkest Hour about Winston Churchill during World War II, and has Gary Oldman playing Churchill shouting, “You cannot reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth!” Oldman’s character was talking about Hitler in the scene, but the department’s clip followed the line with techno music over a montage of President Trump, implying that he’s the tiger. The post carried the tagline, “No one does it like us,” followed by a tiger emoji.

They’ll say they were comparing Trump to the tiger, not to who the tiger represented.
