What I don’t get is why this is such an essential metric. What does this extra money give the campaign that it didn’t have last week? I understand that it takes a lot of money to run an organization in all 50 states, filing all the required paperwork with each state and making sure that voters have accurate information. But doesn’t extra money just go into advertising? Are these people really just a GoFundMe for the media?

I guess I need someone to explain why this extra money might translate into something tangible for Harris. Because if it doesn’t, then this is just an Internet poll where people get 1 vote per dollar contributed, and the money raised only helps some ad rep meet his quota for the month.

Television advertising. It might be hard to believe, but there are way more low information voters than you might imagine. TV advertising is expensive too. Jeff Jackson (NC congressman, running for NC State AG after he was gerrymandered out of Congress) has done a great job addressing this in his short videos.

It takes a lot of money to run for national office. Advertising, logistics, etc. Trump has stiffed a lot of communities and not paid his bills. Which is the reason he resorts to outdoor events. These venues want money up front. In addition, if the numbers look e right, the Harris campaign can share the wealth with down ballot candidates.

Down ballot is key. The true power in this country is the state houses. They make the maps, the laws at the local level, and can make or break a country.

A lot of the bullshit we are dealing with right now are the direct result of the 2010 election cycle. The Republicans gerrymandered a fuck ton of states and it’s going to take quite a few cycles to fix it. People are now paying attention to what they are doing, so that helps immensely, but they need to understand that one election isn’t going to do it.

I wonder why it isn’t a bigger story that the campaign is stiffing venues like this

Did you not pay attention to the news of this in 2016 & 2020?

There were nearly weekly reports of another person or org coming forward about stiffed bills.

Exactly. Why hasn’t some investigative reporter tracked them all down and let everyone know how much he has effectively stolen from these venues? As long as we only hear about it one at a time, nobody will care.
