I remember in the late 80s and early 90s multiple kids were killed in the US over their shoes. Usually by people they knew.
When the designer luxury worship culture gets so bad that kids are killing each other over attaining it… something major has to change.
Solution is to raise minimum wage, increase social support, and raise the poorest up out of poverty. These killings are incredibly rare in the rest of the developed world.
But thanks mostly to conservatives we know that this hasn’t happened in the US, and kids who live in borderline poverty are still killing people for their designer sneakers. The only thing that’s changed in 30 years is the brands.
I didn’t know those were the words until like last year when the song came up in topic and people were talking about how it was such a wild song and I had no idea what was happening
On numerous occasions I’ve found it hilarious/disturbing to be at a bar or club or wherever and people are dancing to or singing along without a clue to some song that, if they actually listented to and understood the lyrics, would make them question their existence.
A long time ago, I was with a group of friends choosing music for one of their weddings. We were listening to some 90s song and the groom was like “ah yeah this is a good song” and I laughed and was like “you know this song is about killing yourself, right?” At first he doubted, but then really taken aback, and then looked up the lyrics and, to my understanding, never listened to it again.
I’m trying to remember the song, but can’t. If I do remember, I’ll edit this comment. But yeah, it’s wild how hardly understandable lyrics can dramatically change a songs meaning and feel.

There’s so many from the 90s. Could be 100s of possibilities.
