So after that massive power outage in Spain a few weeks back, I’ve been wondering a lot if we’re going to be seeing many blackouts and examples of our own power grids mysteriously being attacked during heat waves over the summer? Followed by no real answer about what happened, except maybe vaguely blamed on “Russians?”

Seems like a tactic this administration would use in order to crush dissent.

I actually think the opposite effect would happen. I recall reading that increases in violence correlate with seasonal temperature increases. If we couple that with widespread blackouts occurring in the US during major heat waves, things might reach an actual fever pitch. No longer placated by escapism via phone and Internet, we’d have nowhere to place our rage against the machine but outside our sweltering abodes and in the streets. Dissent might ironically be more locally collective and effective when you can’t do fuck all but go outside.

Without normal comms though, it could be a shitshow that this administration could take advantage of, e.g. how much easier disappearing people would be. Wouldn’t put “accidental” outages past em anyway.

But overall I’ve noticed the DOE hasn’t faced nearly as much doge cage rattling when it comes to the power administration. I have to wonder if the planners of this maga takeover are being extra cautious in making sure the critical creature comforts like stable electricity are maintained to minimize true upset.
