  • Agreed, the ability to create a false dichotomy between “the average American” and whoever is “different” based on income, social status, race, sex, etc is what has kept the rich in power for years. Putin capitalized upon this, used social media to stir the pot, and ended our government, as was the plan since at least 1997:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundations_of_Geopolitics

It’s sad how it was predicted around the same time (1995) by Carl Sagan:

I have a foreboding of an America in my children’s or grandchildren’s time – when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what’s true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness

The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance

Part of that celebration of ignorance is what got us here. People less willing to learn about space, math, physics, biology, ethics, or philosophy; and more willing to watch steroid-pumped dudes on joe Rogan, moving their mentality from thinking wrestling is real to thinking the hosts on the latter have any credibility.

  • I think it comes down to the patty at the end. If it’s a frozen patty, like a bubba burger, it can be cooked to perfection, but it requires constant attention to detail otherwise it’s either undercooked mush, or an overcooked grey thing. Generally patties that are hand made are more forgiving. But even then, I guess the cheese and bread involved are possible phases to one up or really detract from a burger. I think I’m just really hungry for a good burger and it’s late

  • fat fuck chance of ever winning another election

The democratic party joined the oligarchs a long time ago, what they did to Bernie was evidence. Now they’re the part of the system that failed. If there is another election, the opposition candidate will need to be a grassroots candidate working to fix the failures that this election demonstrated. Every state senator and house rep will need to support that candidate or the system is lost. And this is if there is another another election. I doubt there will be. And sadly, if there is, I feel that due to Russia and the oligarch’s influence, it will be a sham election to keep fascism in power.

  • The article certainly outlines a few reasons:

    1. Target “embraced” the idea of rolling back DEI policies more than many companies, furthering its weird cultish “belonging to the bullseye” internal culture.
    2. Target’s customers are more progressive than Walmart, John Deere, or Ford, so more of them actually care about what the company is doing.
    3. Target previous embraced DEI more than other companies. Them previously doing so and then promptly shedding it seems that their corporate culture is one of quarterly gains rather than giving a shit about anybody. While that’s true for pretty much all publicly traded corporations, see point 2.
