In circumstances where you decide to leave and are rehired they start you back at the low end of the band for the level you’re at, however in layoff situations I’ve heard you’re generally rehired at the salary you made before layoffs as long as you had decent ratings.
If they’re taking an immediate cut after layoffs it’s likely because their RSUs have reset, which also means they get an initial grant that’s higher than the continuous equity refreshers. In every scenario I’ve seen you average more TC while your initial grant is active, so while this might be an immediate cut, they’ll average more compensation over the vesting period of the initial grant.
I know some people in FAANG and spend a lot of time on Blind.
Yes, this thread is about India, hence why I said:
I’d be interested to see some stats on average wages of Indian immigrants if you have any
Your response is goalpost moving and hand wavy.
Totally agree with the sentiment, but if I were to boycott everything I disagree with I’d be a hermit living in the woods… actually that doesn’t sound terrible
Blame your concerned conservative and liberal leaders for the last twenty years, not the brown skinned guy trying to feed his kids.
Am I crazy or is that not exactly what the comment you replied to did? I didn’t see any racism or blame against Indians, it was entirely blaming the Canadian government for their immigration policies. I don’t know that I agree with the OP you replied to, but we should be able to have this conversation without devolving into “well you’re racist”
You need those immigrants to work the low wages you won’t.
I’d be interested to see some stats on average wages of Indian immigrants if you have any. There are a ton of Indians in my industry (tech) and they are very skilled and make very good wages. Imo they’re a valuable asset to my industry and I don’t believe they bring the average salaries down, but I don’t agree with the mindset that every immigrant is working at Tim Hortons or something.
How about bleach and ammonia? I can buy those ingredients at any convenience store near me and throw together some mustard gas right? Point is if we banned everything that has any potential to do harm we wouldn’t even be left with rocks and sticks. Regulate, sure, but taking technology out of the hands of regular people and handing it to a select few corporations is a recipe for inequality and disaster.
“Dangerous technology should not be open source, regardless of whether it is bio-weapons or software,” Tegmark said.
What a stupid alarmist take. The safest way for technology to operate is when people can see how it works, allowing experts who don’t just have a financial interest in it succeeding to scrutinize it openly. And it’s not like this is some magical technology that only massive corporations have access to in the first place, it’s built on top of open research.
Home Depot sells all the ingredients you need to make a substantial bomb, should we ban fertilizer and pressure cookers for non-industrial use?
I think the cybertruck looks cool but I’m also really into N64 graphics
Yeah exactly, it’s very, very stupid and not something any service that actually bothered to enable E2EE in the first place would ever seriously consider.
It’s technically not impossible, it would just get rid if the entire point of E2EE, which is mentioned in the open response from WhatsApp, Signal, and others:
if implemented as written, could empower Ofcom to try to force the proactive scanning of private messages on end-to-end encrypted communication services, nullifying the purpose of end-to-end encryption as a result and compromising the privacy of all users
I am willing to bet that the overwhelming response from tech to “build a back door into every internet user’s E2EE communication globally for us to use” is going to be a big fat “No”. The UK market isn’t big enough to be making these kinds of demands.
Your first comment was incredibly vague… I was responding to this part:
Glad corporations get the power to make these decisions.
However, a high false positive rate is different than assuming every post is “guilty until proven innocent”, and they aren’t mutually exclusive either. Current example here would be the automated removal of CSAM on Lemmy. A model was built to remove CSAM and it has a high rate of false positives. Does this mean that it assumes everything is CSAM until it’s able to confirm it isn’t? No. It could work that way, that’s an implementation detail that I don’t know the specifics of, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it does.
But really, who cares? The false positive rate matters for site usability for sure, but the rest is an implementation detail in an AI model, it isn’t the court of law. Nobody’s putting you in Facebook prison because they accidentally mistook your post for rule breaking.
and willing to accept a noticable false positive rate to do it.
It’d probably help if you fully read the comments you’re replying to lol
Well they don’t, hence why they’re taking down posts as required by the countries they operate in and willing to accept a noticable false positive rate to do it.
They have increased the pay, that’s how they attract talent. I know some people from school who went on to work FAANG jobs and they make 3x the median for our industry where we’re all from. Sure we all deserve more money, but it’s not like it isn’t a desirable place to work for most people in the industry.
Dishonored 3? Yes please
So they received a take down request from the Indian government, mistook the users for being in India, followed the law that they’re required to follow in India, and when it was brought to their attention that those users were actually based in Canada they went back and allowed the posts. This doesn’t seem as malicious as people are making it out to be, they should probably work on their geo-blocking, but with 3 billion users in 150+ countries with their own local laws it’s probably safer to be aggressive when it comes to removing content when requested.
If it’s stupid and it works… but also super dangerous that there’s no password protection on the access key to people’s rooms.
Brawndo’s got what plants crave
Hidden cameras? They’ve got big ol fuckin cameras on them and apparently a red LED that lights up when in use lol. It’d be easier to secretly film someone by pretending you’re texting on your phone. More ragebait.
