What a fucking unacceptable action by Modi. Fuck Modi.
Let’s see if Canadian government responds accordingly.
The foreign minister of Canada herself mentions that it hasn’t been proven yet:
Allegations that a representative of a foreign government may have been involved in the murder of a Canadian citizen here in Canada, on Canadian soil… - Mélanie Joly
So it’s still an allegation. There’s no solid evidence out there yet.
The Khalistan fiasco was started by Indira Gandhi, the then-socialist leader of Indian National Congress to deal with radical Sikh separatists taking refuge in the Harmandir Sahib aka the Golden Temple. The event doesn’t quite start from here - infact there’s quite a good amount of backstory, but I’m omitting it, as this comment is pretty large by itself. Indira Gandhi was assassinated in 1984 by her Sikh bodyguards, followed by the anti-Sikh riots in the same year, a pogrom organised by some of the members of the Indian National Congress, with most of the casualty in the national capital of Delhi. The BJP was formed in 1980, and was in power for the first time in 1998, which was almost a decade later.
Talking with respect to politics, Modi has lost all of his power in the only southern states of India that he secured with so much difficulty, which is Karnataka. There’s no way in a million years BJP is coming back, maybe with the exception of the district of Dakshin Kannada and Udupi. Kerala votes communist government every time. Tamil Nadu votes a pro-Dravidian party, and I can imagine the same for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Almost every infrastructure that India has, is in all these five states and Maharashtra.
He also has no power in any of the western part, except for his home state of Gujarat, but that has been a BJP stronghold for so long. Rajasthan is a favourable INC stronghold in the north. Himachal Pradesh alternates between Congress and BJP like a pendulum.
In the center, Maharashtra will give power to those who are pro-Maratha, and it is going to be an easy win for another alt-right party who hates the BJP, either the Shiv Sena or the MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena). None of the major party can win without allying with them. The MNS does not ally, but the Shiv Sena has allied with the left before, it has also allied with the right in the past, but judging by past records, it prefers the left more. The party has fractured into two, with the rebels supporting the BJP and the original leaders supporting the Congress. Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Jharkhand have poor infrastructure, so they are irrelevant.
West Bengal is going to be a bloodbath, but most probably it will stay in the hand of another fascist party AITC (All India Trinamool Congress) under Mamata Banerjee. Again, West Bengal has no proper infrastructure or industry.
UP and Uttarakhand are his stronghold, but again, those are irrelevant, shithole states and also have no infrastructure. These states have “jungle raaj” or as we say in English, they’re banana states.
Also, in Punjab, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which stands in support of Khalistan has been an ally of BJP for the last 24 years, till about 2020. They are no longer in power since 2022, and have been replaced by a alt-centre party called the AAP (Aam Aadmi Party). So, again, your claims about the BJP or Modi is absolute rubbish.
Speaking about the realisation of Khalistan state, the erstwhile Punjab province of British India is not just home to Sikhs, but other communities out there, infact Khalsa Sikhs are a minority. The current state of Punjab is divided between Pakistan and India, and the Indian Punjab was further broken to Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan is as important to Sikh as the Harmandir Sahib in India. What do you suggest should be done with non-Sikhs and non-Khalsa Sikhs? And do you really think Pakistan or India will just give up on it’s largest province? And none in the majority of Sikh community either support this nonsense, because they have families in the Hindu side, just the same way Konkani Hindus have families within Catholic Konkani, Bihari Hindus with Buddhists, and Tuluva animists have families in the Jain side. And seriously, an ethno-religious state in 21st century?
Also no sane Indian or Pakistani would let another partition 2.0 happen again, after witnessing the wide-spread deaths that have happened in 1947.
Also a disclaimer that I’m a proper socialist, and I hate the VHP, BJP, RSS and all the other conservative skunks, but I’ll ask you again: how is Modi involved here?
Edit: obviously, not all the Khalsa Sikhs are Khalistani, some non-Khalsa Sikhs can be hypocrites themselves and support Khalistan, despite knowing that they’re going to get themselves fucked up with the extremism. Just wanted to clear this up. But the idea of Khalistan is generally for extremists, and religious extremism always swings towards orthodoxy.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said the head of Indian intelligence in Canada has been expelled as a consequence.
The Indian Embassy in Ottawa did not immediately answer phone calls from The Associated Press seeking comment.
“Last week at the G-20 I brought them personally and directly to Prime Minister Modi in no uncertain terms,” Trudeau said.
“In the strongest possible terms I continue to urge the government of India to cooperate with Canada to get to the bottom of this matter,” he said.
Opposition Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre said if the allegations are true they represent ”an outrageous affront to our sovereignty.”
But the movement still has some support in northern India, as well as beyond, in countries like Canada and the United Kingdom which are home to a sizable Sikh diaspora.
The original article contains 486 words, the summary contains 133 words. Saved 73%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
Summary missed any mention of Khalistan, a Sikh separatist movement which is an important aspect of the article. It’s the purported reason the activist was killed.
