Oh look. Yet another article post primary election to convince people not to vote so the Republican wins the general election.
If you don’t vote you’re a moron.
deleted by creator
“avoid” the democrats
who do you think that benefits?
blue no matter who
“Calling out transphobia is bad” - you, probably
If this article was before the primaries it would be more helpful and get the right people elected.
Since this article came out after the primaries and two months before the general it serves only one purpose.
And it appears your dumbass is taking the bait.
“I’m not voting because no candidate is perfect and I’ll let the party that views me as property win.” - your dumbass, without a doubt.
I never said I wouldn’t vote for the Democrats if I could, the article doesn’t say you shouldn’t either, just that the author personnaly wouldn’t
The article doesn’t need to say it. The author said it and implies other should via the context of the article itself.
This is the type of shit that makes idiots not vote.
the article doesn’t say you shouldn’t either,
The article literally says:
Many, myself included, have argued against voting for the worst offenders on this list even where it means a Republican takes the seat.
What part of that says to you “This is what I’m doing, but you shouldn’t do that.” - particularly with the second part of the sentence where it’s clear they are talking about more than a single vote (their vote).
You’re right that the article doesn’t say “you shouldn’t do that” but that’s not what I’m claiming, I’m saying the article says it’s up to the readers to consider if transphobia is a deal breaker, if it is then I would say the blame is more on those Democrats for being transphobic, than on the people that are against transphobia
I’m sure the Republican opponents in these states will be much better for Trans rights.
In fact, if we just allow another Republican majority in the legislative branch, they’ll probably just fix the whole thing.
I never called to vote for Republicans, I didn’t even say you shouldn’t vote for those Democrats and neither does the article.
All the article says is that those Democrats are transphobic and that the author, and that’s only his view, wouldn’t vote for them. I, myself would probably vote for them if I could vote in the US, but I can still understand why the author wouldn’t.
If there was an election between Hitler and Stalin, would you have voted for either one because he was slightly less worse than the other one? I personally wouldn’t have, if that is your case too then clearly there is a point where a candidate can be so bad you wouldn’t even vote for them if their opponent is worse, that threshold is just different for everyone
This article does argue for abstaining, it’s literally the entire point of writing this article just before midterms:
Many, myself included, have argued against voting for the worst offenders on this list even where it means a Republican takes the seat. A Republican victory costs the community one seat for one term.
And it’s such a fucking idiotic take.
It’s an article calling out politicians for their answers on “gotcha questions” like ‘do you want biological males playing women’s sports’
It’s interesting you quote that without showing the previous sentence
What you do with this information is up to you.
Also, these politicians didn’t just answer poorly to gotcha question, they actively helped pass bills that took away the rights of trans people
Shomari Figures and Terri Sewell […] Voted yes [for a bill] banning gender-affirming care for transgender service members
Mary Peltola […] One of only six Democrats to vote for [a bill] which contained severe anti-trans and anti-DEI amendments.
Adam Gray […] One of only three Democrats to vote for a bathroom ban on military bases for transgender people, along with a sports ban, a gender-affirming care ban, and several other anti-trans amendments to the NDAA.
Should I keep going or do you think all these bills that marginalize trans people were only “gotcha questions”?
It’s interesting you quote that without showing the previous sentence
Oh please… Just because the author framed the statement with some weasel words doesn’t make the intent any less clear. “I’m not telling you what to do, but…”
Rob Sand, Democratic nominee for governor. Actively opposes transgender participation in sports, answering “no” when a conservative radio host asked whether “biological males” should play women’s sports.
When you pile weak examples like this into your list, it’s clear that you’re just trying to discredit any Democrat and discourage voting.
Taking away an oppressed minorities right is “weak”, what would you consider strong evidence of them being transphobic then? Would they have to start directly beating trans people while calling them slurs? Because if you don’t consider taking away trans people rights transphobic then you don’t have any right to say who trans people should vote for.
Edit: Also I’m not trying to discredit all Democrats, only the transphobic ones
do you think all these bills that marginalize trans people were only “gotcha questions”?
Do you think Republicans running against those Democrats would be better for trans rights?
No, that’s clearly not what I’m saying
How many of those bills do you think would have even been up for consideration if republicans weren’t the majority?
Yeah, democrats could be a lot better, but of the two options we have, a democrat majority is clearly the better choice.
But neither me nor the article is saying to vote for Republicans, it’s just showing that these democrats voted for transphobic laws, if readers decide that that makes them not want to vote, then maybe the blame should be on the Democrats that willingly took away the rights of an oppressed minority and not on the people that don’t want to compromise on trans rights
This article suggests that you should avoid Xavier Becerra (essentially in favor of Steve Hilton) because he (correctly) pointed out the CA state constitution doesn’t protect trans people playing in sports.
You can go ahead and look up what Becerra has done in support of trans people vs what Steve Hilton has done. Spoilers: Steve Hilton referred to trans people playing in the CIF championship as a ‘violation’ of the state constitution and held a ‘Save Girls Sports’ conference. He is outright anti-trans.
Adam Gray (D) is essentially an anti-trans centrist piece of shit, however whatever he’s done pales in comparison to what Kevin Lincoln II’s ® stated position on trans people is.
So no, this isn’t ‘calling out transphobia’ - this is more DSA brainrot.
What does this have to do with DSA?
DSA types only swing at Democrats.
DSA are Democrats, just progressive ones like Bernie AOC Mamdani etc. They literally run as Dems and would never discourage you from voting. Activism is a big part of their brand.
If you’re talking about the chucklefuck reactionary edgelords and ID-politic protest non-voters on Lemmy, I dont know if these have a name. Accelerationist doomers describes some. Hardline single issue voters would probably describe the rest who aren’t bots or feds.
Here’s the thing, Hasan Piker explicitly did not support Kamala during the 2024 election cycle. Hasan Piker is one of, if not the biggest, DSA proponent.
I simply disagree with the idea that DSA types would ‘never discourage’ me from voting. That just isn’t true.
I think you’re spot on about the accelerationist doomers and whatever other adjectives you’d like to describe the people here with.
Sorry for delay. Not on twitch and had to read up on this guy. He has no DSA affiliation, certainly nothing formal. He appears to be politically aligned but his wiki makes no mention of DSA and his influence appears to be primarily in online/streaming spaces rather than in traditional political organizing or offline movements.
The reason I say DSA won’t discourage you from voting is because they are a political organization with a strategy built around reform, which is impossible with single-issue purity testing.
Pushing false dilemmas is bad.
-me, definitely
As a trans person I beg you, do not listen to my sister, Erin. She is not thinking clearly or responsibly about what will happen to us if Democrats lose.
If you would like to protest on our behalf, please don’t do it by not voting.
A Republican victory costs the community one seat for one term
No. Republicans plan to “end” us. Letting them win costs us our very lives.
Even if that weren’t the case, we are not so selfish as to sacrifice other people, and our planet, just to prove a point.
I feel like Erin has a point.
I also feel like the Dems in my state are the infinitely better alternative to the scam artist and big pharma conmen the GOP is putting forward. I’d much rather petition Acton and Brown to support the trans community than march in huge protests that are ultimately ignored by their Republican counterparts that are actively trying to harm and denigrate the trans community.
I live in a Republican state (trying to get out), and I just had to watch 3 anti-trans commercials in a row. Hating trans people is fucking catnip to these people.
Transphobes think about transness more than transgender people do
yep. same thing with homophobes, many of them are obsessed with homoeroticism. and a lot of racists are obsessed with race play.
0.o
Many, myself included, have argued against voting for the worst offenders on this list even where it means a Republican takes the seat.
Fascists love your strategy and support.
When Trump ran the first time, I made the point to everyone I know that even if you yourself aren’t racist, if you vote for Trump, you’re voting for racism, so the difference between you and a racist is too negligible to count.
The same is true of anyone willing to vote for a transphobic Democrat.
This article tries to claim that Xavier Becerra is transphobic, as if Steve Hilton isn’t infinitely worse (also Becerra isn’t transphobic, he correctly stated the CA state constitution doesn’t protect trans people playing in sports - you can go ahead and research his support of trans people yourself).
You’re a joke of a human being and you’re causing far more damage to trans people pushing messages like this.
Single-issue voters are the bane of democracy and progressive progress. And nothing is more ironic that voting to sign your own death warrant.
So.why are you Blue MAGA types so gung ho for doing it?
You understand that Neoliberal Austerity is the breeding ground of fascism, right? You are advocating for continuing doing the exact thing that made Trump viable to begin with. Blue No Matter Who is just MAGS with extra steps.
you Blue MAGA types
Since you’d like to be an uncivil little bitch, you can fuck off to my block list.
This is how MAGA I am: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beck_v._Eiland-Hall
Where’s your fucking receipts?
Yeah. You’re not really beating the allegations here.
The fact that you think that’s “receipts” is hilarious, honestly. But just in case this is your first time back on the Internet since making the website that I’m very sure you really are the person who made: Blue MAGA is a perjorative thrown at people who are just as deluded in partisan non-reality as the red hat crowd, but Blue flavored. The Blue MAGA prefers the lies on CNN and MSNBC to the lies on Fox News, but is just as attached to their preferred set of lies as the red variety. Y’know. Like someone who thinks Glen Beck matters all that much in the grand scheme of things.
You’re a coward and a fool
And you seem to be a bootlicking supporter of genocide, transphobia, and Neoliberal Austerity feeding the rise of Fascism.
Which makes you a multi-millionaire or yet another recipient of the DNC’s biannual “Fell for it again” award. If you’re unsure which, check your bank balance.
Blue MAGA is nothing. Dumb ML communities on the internet try to make it a thing, but you guys are irrelevant.
but you guys are irrelevant.
Then quit blaming us when your shitbag genocide enthusiasts fail to win the quadrennial popularity contest.
Exactly, now shut up and vote for our Blue flavored genocide!
I’m seriously considering moving to Marie Gluesenkamp Perez‘s district and challenging her seat. She’s part of the “Blue dog coalition” and votes like she’s MAGA, she’s not any more qualified to do the job than I am, frankly I’m more qualified because she has no actual qualifications.
Edit: I’m from her state just an hour north, not just some rando
For those who want to do an even funnier thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entryism
AFAIK you don’t have to move. Candidates are not required to live in the district for which they seek office. There are tons of districts across the US with basically unchallenged status quo incumbents who could be easily replaced by progressives.
Brent Hennrich is probably our best bet, but he needed way more funding to get to traditional ads to reach people so he just couldn’t really get in front of her.
Yeah it feels like most states it’s VOTE BLUE NO MATTER WHO, and a few are so safely Blue that you can vote for like Communist Party and still not have the GoP win
When it’s a choice between “might try to kill trans people” and “Definitely will try to kill trans people” then you have to pick the lesser evil.
hate looking at the comments for these pieces, its always full of people that think me and my sisters exist to farm votes and telling us to enjoy the camps when we dont want to associate with people that betray and genocide us
edit: real curious what the people who are pissed at me for these comments thought about the women who came out with the accusations against Platner

Immediately proves my point right

oh your post history is full of you going after trans women for being concerned about the trend for mainstream dems to repeatedly throw us under the bus AND defending fascist trying to take over FOSS. nvm youre worthless lmao
deleted by creator
the issue in this case being the right for me and my friends to exist and not be sent to prisons or excluded from society? Yeah, super stupid to give a shit about it.
deleted by creator
Booby trapping one’s home with carbonyl, cyanogen, and azide compounds can’t hurt. Nobody will be sending anyone to a camp then.
This is wrong. All people deserve equal rights, and if they don’t support that they should leave the Democratic party. It’s supposed to be foundational values for all, liberty and justice for all, and all that jazz and apple pie, but it really is not. Dems still best for democracy and We The People, but needs improvement.
It was all a lie,
Liberty, justice for all,
The owners get rich
This is the problem with the Democratic Party.
its not a Party. Its 37 parties in a trenchcoat, and there is no unifying idealism, goal, or outlook that binds them to singular purpose outside of the 2 party system crushing all the non-extrem-right-wing people together into the not-extreme-right-wing party (that is slowly becoming more and more right wing because of all the right wing people being forced into it due to the 2 party system)
You have some people, that genuinely care about the people and think its governments job to serve them, like Mamdani, and AOC, and Bernie Sanders (Who is technically Independent, but is basically a Democrat in everything but affiliation label, since he’s always worked so close with them)
Then you have some people that don’t think trans people should have rights/exist, and should be put in prison, but don’t want to actively hunt them for sport, which makes them too lefty liberal for Republicans.
Then you have the actual Republicans like Fetterman, Sinema, and Manchin, who are actual Republicans running as democrats just to act as saboteurs on any democratic vote or cohesion.
and a whole big spectrum from shit to okay in between.
The number of people arguing trans people should compromise and vote for people who actively take away their rights is disturbing
I get it, but most of us here from the US are not single issue voters. From my viewpoint the democrats controlling Congress stops or at least slows laws harmful to the trans community, plus a lot of other harmful things compared to republicans.
Or people sit out and you get the republican agenda all the way. No good options.
I see many commenters wishing to accelerate the decline of the US (understandable but also fuck you) but it’s also a good reminder that the fights for gay rights, worker’s rights, and more took decades.
Shit even MLK day took near 20 years to be recognized and his family had to fight tooth and nail for that.

Hmm, should I vote for an anti-trans Democrat that’s going to support democrat majority and generally not going to support the nosedive into fascism,
Or should I vote for the republican that definitely wants trans people dead. And fascism. And definitely less worker protections.
This is such a tough choice.
When Biden arrested 3000 non violent student protestors, that wasn’t fascism?
deleted by creator
Lol.
deleted by creator
The actual fascist was supplying the weapons for a genocide and then arresting protestors for protesting it, I dunno how much more it needs to be spelled out, but your country has been fascist for decades, lmfao.
Oh look, the “try doing nothing again, maybe it will work this time” sock puppets are active again. It must be nearing election season again.
Normally, I would just block fascist sock puppets, but you guys showing up always reminds me to look at the early voting schedule for my area.
Excuse my curiosity, put as a non-american I don’t understand one thing: since you have only two candidates at elections, you do not vote for a candidate but against their opponent, right?
We had this same discussion in 2024. The ‘don’t vote for democrats’ crowd got what they wanted.
And the Democrats doubled down on everything that was driving away their voters, proving that not only were those voters right, but that there is no redeeming the party.
But keep doing exact the thing that created the problem, I’m sure that’ll eventually fix it.
No, it proved that your stragetgy of moving the Democrats left by not voting was a failure.
If I’m a leftist, and the dems aren’t representing my beliefs and actively harming my community, why do you think they deserve my vote?
That’s the thing, you aren’t a leftist
If you’re fine with Republican policies instead, then they don’t. Do what you want.
Lol, you should be saying that to the party, so they win!
Lol
And that your strategy of ensuring the status quo never changes by reliably voting for it no matter how terrible it is has been a rousing success.
Unless that’s not what you were trying to do, in which case you can find plenty of clown makeup this time of year in the Spirit Halloween that opened where the jobs used to be in your town.
You really think that I should vote for Rhett Marques over Shomari Figures? Like this is a genuine belief? I am voting in the midterms and currently plan on voting for Shomari Figures…
Erin says that some people have argued for withholding votes from anti-trans democrats. That’s not the same as casting a vote for the opposition. It’s not at all ridiculous to withhold your vote from someone who is actively trying to harm you or throw you under the bus to advance their career. I know that’s hard to understand if you aren’t personally affected by something.
This can’t be complete. Florida isn’t listed.
Being a Democrat isn’t legal in Florida
That must be it.
I vote Republican, and I don’t care about the whole trans thing, to each their own. I do, however, draw the line when it comes to certain things like forcing the issues on my kids, and telling me that a trans girl can compete with my kids in sports. Sorry, not going to support that.
I’m not sure that changing absolutely nothing and allowing trans people to play sports is forcing anything. Banning trans athletes from competing within their identity would actually be much closer to forcing an ideology on a group of people.
Trans women in sports is a bullshit niche problem that republicans use to bash you over the head with fear and paranoia.
There are almost no trans women in sports, and even fewer who are competitive enough to force out top athletes who aren’t trans.
Maybe you’re thinking of the Fallon Fox orbital fracture incident?
A study of over 4,000 professional MMA and Boxing matches shows that a little over 3% of matches result in (at least one) orbital bone fracture.
Maybe you’re thinking of Lia Thomas? She did win 1 of 22 races in the 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships.
As far as I know she hasn’t won first place in any other championships.
Maybe you’re thinking of Laurel Hubbard? The weightlifter who competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics?
She was disqualified with a DNF after falling out of the snatch portion (stop it).
Things aren’t as simple as your choice of political candidates would have you believe. Surprise surprise.
That said, I am a fan of pragmatism and compromise, and I will admit as a trans woman myself the sports thing has always been a sensitive subject for me.
Puberty matters. If you go through male puberty, your body is likely to be different from someone who never did — often in noticeable ways, usually that give weight (combat and lifting sports usually separate divisions by weight), wing-span, and/or upper-body leverage advantages that don’t simply “go away” with hormone treatment and surgeries.
I know I’m not supposed to say that as a generally left leaning person, but I’m sorry. It’s true. I’m not going to sit here and deny reality to appease a narrative people I otherwise associate with feel adhered to.
If you’re a lefty you may be asking “why make the distinction? Aren’t you just splitting hairs to capitulate to bigots?”
I know. I feel that in my gut. The problem is at the highest levels of competition, the hairs matter, and I’m not willing to bite my tongue about the truth, even when it emboldens bigots, because I care more about the truth than I care about the bigots. We need to care more about the truth than our feelings or our victories.
There are people who research these things and make these decisions. Sports scientists. Researchers. Athletic boards. Etc etc.
I vote people like me AND people like you (@ZK686) ignore our feelings and have the a-political professionals dig into it and separate what feels true vs what is actually true, announce their findings, and make decisions.
Anything else is just kicking the can down the road likely for the sole purpose of keeping it as a dividing issue for political purposes.
Also if you’re interested, here’s one last truth that I challenge you not to ignore.
This guy is who the ML people want to hand power to.
So tired of seeing my congressperson on every one of these lists. I voted against them in the primary, but in the general election my other choice will be someone who openly supports Trump.
That is, alas, the way. Support better candidates when you have the chance, and vote against fascism and genocide when able.
Fact. Not voting might succeed in teaching Dems a lesson about how important it is to vote for bills that contain pro-trans legislation and against bills that contain anti-trans legislation.
But do you want to know what not voting is far better at? Giving Republicans the power to end us.
Early election begins in two weeks. Not voting Democrat = voting to exterminate trans people. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either confused or wants us to die.
