I think the Luka news about hospitalization were true, though. I might be wrong, but IIRC, it was verified by several sources. Presumably he was in the hospital for “normal” reasons, and got better.

EDIT: As you can probably tell, I know fuck all about Colorado. My only point of contact to the state is a coworker who lives there (born and raised, I believe). As with most of Asimov’s books (I’ve read the majority of all his published fiction), characters tend to be farly shallow and one dimensional. However, character arcs and deep personalities isn’t why I love Asimov in general and this book in particular.

So much this. Chainshot was highly effective at taking down masts and sails, effectively immobilizing the target. If you fired a chainshot towards the mast, chances were really high that each ball would hit 9n each side of the mast, with the chain tearing off the mast itself. And even if you missed and hit only sail, the chain would rip out a huge chunk of sail and any rigging it hit as well.
