There’s also OpenRA Romanov’s Vengeance, for people looking for this type of stuff. A WIP though, same as this project I think.

Firefox@lemmy.ml•Firefox 147 Will Support The XDG Base Directory Specification
14·5 days agoWow! Now that is something that’s nice to see!
Instead of “we’ve inserted AI into your AI so that you can run more AI while you’re running AI”.

3·11 days agoWait, this is LibreWolf we’re speaking about. Have you unchecked these two? (see screenshot)

UPDATE: The upper checkbox seems to flip
browser.translations.enableinabout:config. Librewolf even demands you do a full browser restart after unchecking. Combined with the name of the property, I think it’s a win for you! I mean, that this thing really disables translations from ever executing.UPDATE 2: Admittedly it’s not pre-disabled though. But clearly exposed in the settings.

8·11 days agoNoteworthy, Librewolf pre-disables the AI nonsense for you. (Local offline translations, the only actually useful feature that uses LLMs, is kept.)

3·10 days agoIn Librewolf there is no AI ^^
At least not out-of-the-box. Dunno if you can dig it up via about:config. Not via normal Settings I think.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Android syncthing-fork repo gone and Developer profile gone private. Update:moved to a different repo @ https://github.com/researchxxl/syncthing-android
7·11 days agoF-Droid has a copy of the source code I assume.
Good question, and I’m not fully sure. I think it may be the messengers, E2E or not. I hope it’s not the hardware providers such as Samsung/Apple, because those wouldn’t be trustworthy.
It’s not a full ending yet. It’s a local win. But the possibility for the proposed “voluntary” surveillance is still discussed. We need to push until April 2026 to make sure this sh*t doesn’t get through in any shape or form.
I’ve also edited the post slightly, adding a TL&DR; on top.

Mechanical Keyboards@lemmy.ml•The interesting typing sounds of the keyboard
7·1 month agoPersonally, I never open anything from the “X” platform. Using a platform that belongs to a person that makes Nazi salutes is unacceptable for my standards.
I don’t really know, but I support you in your search!

Open Source@lemmy.ml•What will you do after Android starts restricting FOSS apps?
1·1 month agoTL&DR; PinePhone. Longer explanation below
-
I’ll prepare for sacrifices. I should not blame the Open-Source alternatives that they’re not on par with Android yet. It was Android’s decision to become more closed, and I’ll keep remembering it.
-
I’ll start using my PinePhone that I already own anyway. I’ve used it for a while, but there was less push for me to use back then. Without F-Droid, I’ll press myself hard to adapt to PinePhone and will just stay there until it improves. I have 1-2 decades of experience of using non-mainstream software and see it improve with time. I’ll learn. I’ll adapt.

This is disrespectful to common sense.
The number of people KILLED in the mentioned Gulags is in the millions. The total number of killed by the regime is estimated as ~~20 million people. The number of people imprisoned in the US is just a bit north of a million.
Having a mass murderer on a picture and trying to picture it as “wasn’t as bad as the US now” is distasteful. Have self-respect, spend effort and verify the numbers. Think critically about the picture you’re thinking to upvote.
P.S. I’m not a US citizen or resident. In terms of freedoms, both the Soviet Union was terrible, and a lot of the events happening in the US right now are terrible.
Russia cannot become socialist again because it never was socialist. It’s official regime was “communism”, but there was very little socialist about it in the way Europe is doing it now.
A dedicated community has been created for this, see https://lemmy.ml/c/librephone (I just saw this community and joined myself)

Mechanical Keyboards@lemmy.ml•Btyp - a mini PG1316M switch keyboard for use on a smartphone's magsafe backside
3·1 month agoIt doesn’t look too bad on the video actually, check it out. (See the post’s EDIT, I messed it up at first.)
Depends a lot on your phone size, hand size etc though, I guess. Generally very small keyboards CAN be ergonomic, as far as I’ve heard (also from people with literally diagnosed RSI). How this one objectively fares IDK

15·1 month agoNone, just use layers. There are 4 keys with a frequency of 0.15% or lower: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letter_frequency For a text of 1000 symbols, on average, that would be less than 5 of those characters total.
That being said, the requirements for your muscle memory increases, yes.
For those that don’t know what Layers are - please google the concept yourself; if I try to write it spontaneously in my own words, the result will be subpar.

Why should we care about an AI tailored to that one person whom many consider a fascist?
Negative publicity is also publicity. Please let’s rather ignore this stupidity.
