Kids should learn about taxes and other important life lessons. However musical studies help kids a lot. It improves memory, hand eye coordination, increases grey matter in their brains, improves fine motor skills…all sorts of benefits come from learning a musical instrument. Plus once they can actually play you’ll have a live in classical jukebox.

7·2 years agoDoes a reboot fix the issue? Seems like it’s recognizing something as a phone number which isn’t a phone number. A reboot might reset whatever daemon is causing the issue.

You’re missing out. Lower Decks is easily one of the best trek shows if you like trek. Also they do a crossover episode with Strange New Worlds.
This is what i do. Star Trek playlist gets put on when i’ve got nothing else to watch. Random episodes of all trek is my happy place.

politics @lemmy.world•House Majority Leader Steve Scalise to undergo stem cell transplant
3·2 years agoThey fire the same rounds but I wouldn’t really consider them a knockoff. SKS was made sort of as an answer to the M1 carbine and other lighter shorter weapons. This was in comparison to the Mosin Nagant which is a big beefy boy and hard to lug around. Also the SKS was designed 4 years before the AK47.
None of the guests suspected that she hadn’t made it from scratch
Bullshit. Did this author ever try a 1980s frozen lasagna? They absolutely could tell, they just didn’t want to offend her.

113·2 years agoI’m all for gun control but the guy who shot Scalise did it with an SKS and a handgun. Neither of those are classified as assault weapons.

1·2 years agoperhaps the mind flayer is seeing it’s own hand opening a holding pod?
I hadn’t thought of that! Good call. It’s very ambiguous no matter how you read it.

Baldur's Gate 3@lemmy.world•[SPOILER] How do you interpret the intro?English
4·2 years agoThe Narrator says that mind flayer near Ragzlin isn’t your captor.
This mind flayer’s build is smaller, its garb plainer - a fearsome creature even in death, but not the one that tormented you.
Then the first time Ragzlin asks who killed it it shows you this memory:
You see a clawed hand open a holding pod - devoid of flesh, only darkness.
Then Dror asks a second time and the mind flayer responds with this memory:
You see a clawed hand open the holding pod. The murk clears to reveal a face. Yours.
So we don’t have clawed hands first off. And we never opened a holding pod except Shadowheart’s. So is the illithid making it up? Did Orin (or another doppleganger) pretend to be us? Those are my two guesses at what’s happening.

News@lemmy.world•‘Lord Of The Wings’ Food Truck Trademark In New Zealand Defeated By Tolkien Estate
892·2 years agoPer comments from Holmes himself, the idea for the name had nothing to do with Tolkien’s works, nor the movie. It was instead to denote royalty and lordship. I have seen nothing in any of the reporting to indicate that this had to do with anything other than the name of the food truck. The truck wasn’t going to be themed after the books or films. There wasn’t going to be any trade dress or vehicle wraps harkening back to those works of fiction. There wasn’t to be a flavor of chicken called “One wing to rule them all.”
So trademark holders being douchebags as usual. The Lord of the Rings isn’t associated with chicken wings in anyway so how could consumers be confused?

Baldur's Gate 3@lemmy.world•[SPOILER] How do you interpret the intro?English
3·2 years agoOur abductor isn’t the near dead illithid near Astarion. None of the illithid that you can interact with in act 1 are our captors as far as i can tell. I think this because i once picked up all the illithid bodies and sent them to camp to see if the Dror Ragzlin illithid still accuses you. It does.

World News@lemmy.world•Russia announced it had deployed, to Ukraine, its best new artillery-detecting radar. Hours later, the Ukrainians blew it up—with artillery.English
54·2 years agoThat makes it even worse. Why didn’t they set up at night and throw up some camo netting? There are ways to lessen the chances your radar is blown up is all I’m saying. The ruzzians are morons exhibit #4,832.
Edit:
This was tucked away at the bottom of the article:
It’s possible the Ukrainians knew where to look for the Yastreb-AV because the truck-mounted phased-array radar emitted a distinctive signal—one Ukrainian intelligence may have had on file.
So they probably did radiate at the wrong time and paid for it.

The whole ad seems to be a ripoff of a Paul Harvey speech.

Harvey’s wikipedia page describes him as a close friend of Joseph McCarthy, Billy Graham, and J. Edgar Hoover.
