Yeah I dont know. I work in a field where I hear a lot of the details of people’s employment stories and if I can tell you one universal thing its that women need to be 5x better than a confident sounding man in order to be taken half as seriously.

having said that, someone hopped into the thread with a couple pieces of internet sleuthing that seems to show that at the very least some seemingly consistent org that tries to tie stories to real people through internet photojournalism posted this story. the parking lot seems to be near an ICE detention facility according to dude. its not exactly forensic but it appears to be a bit closer to verifiable than an gen ai post on facebook

based on everything you dug up it seems pretty likely that its for real. Not sure how solid it is for the org to publish something like this with the source of the story being “community member” ya know? seems plausible.

I still stand by my original point that internet literacy is a huge problem for older and uneducated people. I remain in the “not a fan” camp of posts such as this with a little blurb about the event without any concrete foundation regarding legitimacy. this could have been utter bullshit and its fuckin embarassing for people to outrage dogpile on something based on a screencap of a tweet. I believe everyone’s first thought should be “can I trust that this is real?”
