“I tested the system and the system failed,” he said.
He got caught, so I don’t think the system failed?
So much this! I was in therapy for depression. I had no idea that I had ADHD, just internalized the stuff about being lazy, not trying hard enough, etc. Then I eventually got a therapist who has ADHD. She started sprinkling in stories from her own life, and every time I was like “OMG, I relate so hard to that!” Eventually she was like, “Sooo have you considered…?”

This checks for me as a teacher. It’s obviously not a cure all since there could be many other things in play, but it’s wild how much progress kids with major behavior issues can make when they’re given consistency.

6·1 year agoYeah. I don’t use tiktok so this doesn’t affect me, but the only reason I’m here is that during the whole reddit API fiasco (which, to be honest, as a non-tech savvy person I still don’t completely understand), someone posted a link to beehaw and it seemed like a breath of fresh air, so I joined. I had no idea what Lemmy was at the time, and I still really only have a vague idea of what federation actually means.
There are a lot of people on Lemmy who seem to assume that no one worth knowing has a life that doesn’t involve a large amount of time on their computer, and that’s just silly. I’m grateful for the people who do have the know-how to build this space, but a healthy community of people is going to include a large variety of knowledge and experience.
Sorry for the tangent in reply to your comment; it’s just been on my mind for a bit. 😅
Absentee is the way to go! It’s so nice being able to fill out my ballot as I research the weirdly worded state or city ballot measures that were off my radar from the comfort of my own couch.

2·2 years agoYep. I know a guy whose dad was an engineer for Boeing doing something space related. He’s now a flat earther because his particular flavor of Christianity says so.
Cool, I’ll definitely look into those when I get a chance. Maybe Starbound to start with. Thanks!
I got into gaming late and don’t have a ton of time to play, so I’m not a super experienced gamer. I LOVE No Man’s Sky. Any thoughts on which of these I would enjoy most if I feel like branching out?

Echoing the other comments here. It was right about when I hit 30 that I really started trying to live the life that I want for myself. I still have mental health issues to work through, and sometimes it’s been two steps forward, one step back, but at 37 I can honestly say it’s been an overall positive trajectory.
I just try to be comfortable with the silence; if they’re uncomfortable that’s on them.
