I don’t know. Probably not bad. Large DNS providers tend to be OK unless specifically known to be not OK. Just make sure you really use DoH

Privacy@lemmy.ml•I tried Vivaldi on Linux just to find out that it’s not for me.
101·2 months agoVivaldi is made by former Opera guys and deserves zero attention because it is yet another proptietary piece of crap.
Set up DoH globally for your devices if you need privacy. Something like Adguard DNS.
Devuan and Peppermint Devuan edition are good ones. These basically are Debian but you can use OpenRC.
I don’t recommend Alpine, it is a non-GNU Linux and was not developed for desktop/workstation usage, so you might encounter undocumented issues.
The closest thing to Artix is Gentoo, a DIY distro with OpenRC, but it is for the real geeks.
What do you mean no tracking since you own your own server? If you use it alone, there is a straightforward correlation between the requests from your searxng instance and you, the dude who hosts it. The idea of searxng is that requests of many people become mixed together through an instance
Searx is not the easy one. Many instances don’t work, and the working ones hardly show relevant results.

Linux@lemmy.ml•AstrOS - an immutable, secure-by-default distribution built on Arch Linux and the COSMIC desktop
25·2 months agoNo one will use GNOME OS except for GNOME ecosystem devs. Even the DE itself has two long-term active forks and a flashback edition because virtually no one wants to use GNOME as is.
Same applies to KDE except it is accepted as is, but again, what’s the point of using it if you are not one of their devs? And why do we even need two KDE distros?
I wasn’t speaking yet of Aeon, this one seems more promising, but again, people who don’t want to bother themselves much just don’t use rolling release, it has always been for the fearless ones.
UPD: The third Ubuntu based I meant was Pop OS

Linux@lemmy.ml•AstrOS - an immutable, secure-by-default distribution built on Arch Linux and the COSMIC desktop
13·2 months agoYeah but GNOME OS and KDE Neon are built just to test new versions of KDE and GNOME, while COSMIC is basically battletested in Pop!_OS. GNOME OS is built from scratch and hardly is usable for normal people, and the other two are based on Ubuntu LTS, only their specific packages are rolling.

Linux@lemmy.ml•AstrOS - an immutable, secure-by-default distribution built on Arch Linux and the COSMIC desktop
75·2 months agoNot to be mean but atomic and arch are two opposite things and if one needs atomic then they hardly need arch and vice versa. You basically created endeavour with cosmic and flatpaks.
I’m also not quite sure that this construction with hashes is a reliable one… I might miss additional technical details though.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Alternatives to WordPress that work through TOR/TAILS?
2·2 months agoNot exactly what you are asking for, but there is mitra, a microblogging service that can work through Tor and use Monero address for sign in.
Lawnchair launcher + Arcticons. Really goat. Just search for launchers and icon packs on F-Droid
It is not safer than downloading apks from releases on GitHub, except that when you do this on GitHub, you usually know more about the project beforehand.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Are there any other display servers aside from Wayland and X11 with its forks?
3·2 months agoIt simply looks cool. If screensavers are redundant, then LED keyboards, animated wallpapers, and a lot of other common things are as well.
Weird how people downvote my comment with obvious and objective reasons why people dislike Wayland, as if I personally hated Wayland. Why does shit like Wayland vs X11 become some kind of religion?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Are there any other display servers aside from Wayland and X11 with its forks?
2·2 months agoCuz I like them. And many people do. They’re beautiful and have been around for decades, why deprecating them now?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Are there any other display servers aside from Wayland and X11 with its forks?
1·2 months agoThe old machines I have are that old, that they barely get along with LXQt (X11 if I memory serves), and my main one can even stand KDE (with Wayland ofc)

Linux@lemmy.ml•Are there any other display servers aside from Wayland and X11 with its forks?
24·2 months agoThere is no way to get a real screensaver work, prove me wrong. And no one cares if it is the protocol or the implementation. It just works worse than X11 on modest hardware, and people dislike it.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Are there any other display servers aside from Wayland and X11 with its forks?
77·2 months agoIt was not truly ready for end users until the latest years but was shipped despite. It also broke some kinds (I mean a lot of) software, I cannot imagine how many lines of code had to be rewritten because of Wayland. And it also lacks screensavers. And is more resource-demanding.

I need it for my job. And I actually hate it (both the job and wa).
