papafoss@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Any immutable distros like Chrome OS? (Desktop part of the project)3·11 months agoEndless Os is solid! It’s my go to for ppl who don’t know jack about Linux. But it’s also just a really well put together distro.
My favorite feature by far is just Auto updates. It’s the only distro I’ve used where Auto updates just work. Everything stays updated zero tweaks required no interruption of workflow. It’s honestly so good at it that I forget that it even updates. And that doesn’t just go for the OS that goes for apps too.
It also runs well on just about any hardware I’ve ever put it on. I just put it on my buddy’s Toshiba satellite laptop that’s rocking an I5 4200u and a 5400rpm hard drive. Takes a second to boot but doesn’t miss a beat once it’s up and running.
It is very flatpak centric but if you’re looking for that Chrome OS feel it’s about as close as you can get.

I work at a place where everyone logs into the same Chrome browser. To access everything at work on one computer. There’s close to 70 logins on there and all I can think about is it wouldn’t take much for someone to screw up and get everyone’s account exposed. I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve memorized all my passwords and just log in instead of using my Chrome login. It keeps me up at night. Just waiting for somebody to download some malware.
What phone you get. It’s sound like a Samsung have you seen if there is custom ROM you can run? https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/#samsung
Also a lot of services like Location Protocol, google services frame, downloads manager, contacts. Are necessary for your phone to work at all. Turning them off and on when using them would destroy your battery.
I have those apps too. I’m just saying I have never had this issue. I am not saying it’s not legit it’s just strange.
I also don’t use any social media besides lemmy so that might also play a factor. And I block A LOT of ips on my phone.
Yall have to have some shady apps I have never had this issue. Apps starting on boot is not normal

Like where do people find the time?
papafoss@lemmy.worldtoInsanePeopleFacebook@lemmy.world•Why do they never think people can stack rocks?412·1 year agoNeither I am just explaining how you clearly have no idea what your talking about. That there isn’t a consensus on how these techniques came about and that they are impressive.
Here I make it simple.
Your wrong I’m right.
papafoss@lemmy.worldtoInsanePeopleFacebook@lemmy.world•Why do they never think people can stack rocks?69·1 year agoI think your under estimating how incredibly good at “stacking stones” these cultures where.
Protzen, Jean-Pierre. "Inca Quarrying and Stone Cutting."Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians. 44.2 (1985): 161-182. Print
Protzen, Juan-Pierre. “Who Taught the Inca Stonemasons Their Skills? A Comparison of Tiahuanaco and Inca Cut- Stone Masonry.” Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians. 56.2 (1997): 146-167
Here is my source material. In it it goes over the extreme tolerances and incredible craftsmanship of the Inca and Tiahuanaco. It’s not like laying brick or stone masonry (also difficult) we do with mortar today.
Also these structures are made by a bunch of people working over years and in the Incas over vast distances. All done with out written language or at least one we fully understand. (I am aware of quipu) So they had the infrastructure and advanced enough society to train and standardize there building techniques.
Tiahuanaco are considered more advanced than the Inca and their collapse predated the founding of the Inca empire by roughly 600 to 500 years. Not saying they couldn’t of provided some sort of inspiration for the Inca. But it also makes them more impressive and proves my point.
You should actually read the wiki if you’re going to cite it.
papafoss@lemmy.worldtoInsanePeopleFacebook@lemmy.world•Why do they never think people can stack rocks?315·1 year agoTo this person’s credit, the rate that the Inca developed advanced stone masonry techniques is considered a bit of a mystery. It’s believed that they got them from another culture. That also had very advanced masonry techniques. The mysterious part of it is that both cultures don’t have any developmental history.
Why you don’t like Wayland would be a more interesting post.
So his Meme is correct the system will break if you force it to uninstall something?
papafoss@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Windows 11 has made the “clean Windows install” an oxymoron | Op-ed: PC makers used to need to bring their own add-on bloatware—no longer.English131·2 years ago18 years of running linux on my computers because windows is insufferable in some way or form. Windows 11 Pro was actually fairly decent at first I even liked the UI despite its issues. Then updates broke and even digging into the cmd prompt tools couldn’t fix it. Which is just insane to me as a company that is hoovering up my data cant figure out updates. I dont even care all that much about the privacy aspect if it just worked. Hell its why I use google services. But every version of windows I have used since XP has had some sort of fatal error that could only be fixed with a clean install. When that happens its my sign to go on a distro hop.
Dark patterns have also just become the norm in Windows and Mac OS. Honestly kind of sad because both OS’s at one point in time had there high points where they felt like they were built for the user. Now they are glorified billboards that run apps.

I only print docs and pictures. But in my opinion printing on Linux is largely better than Windows. It just works most of the time. And if there is an issue the solution is generally restarting the job.
