There are many variants. Also APL2.0 is just as permissive but protects against patent trolling

Linux@lemmy.ml•Is anyone making a frontend player for the music Anna recently archived from Spotify?
2·2 days agoOr all the arr things
Havent heard of popcorn time yet
Edit: while I like the idea, I hope that the software at least seeds to ratio 1 by default. Otherwise it is pretty unsustainable for the network

10·2 days agoGet torrent archives when they are ready, select the music you like and share that. Way more sustainable than streaming from a hobby project that already costs them insane amounts
You can patch the kernel live? I know that Ubuntu does that
Fun fact, there isnt even an “MIT license”, look:

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•What's up with the FitGirl cult?English
11·12 days agoI semi agree. I have a shitty DSL connection but even with 5MiB/s downloads, a game will be there in like 2 days or so? And that is totally fine!
I get 3rd world countries, my standards are just low end normality in many parts of the country.
But still, games are huge and this leads to 1½ or more of disk usage. Repacks often save less than half the space, so if you want to share it and also use it at the same time, you will keep the repack and waste a lot of storage space. I have 4TB now and even then run out of space. I would very much prefer having the files there, linking (or copying, doesnt matter on BTRFS) the files to my bottles sandbox and using them there

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Maybe the RAM shortage will make software less bloated?
1·24 days agoWell, Linux desktop has no unified WebView so people kinda need to use Electron.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•One of the next indicators of humanity's impending extinction will be a mass bird die-off, simply due to all the nonstop microplastics that'll clog up their lungs
1·29 days agoUhm that doesnt work like that
Microplastics are mostly in water, and a huge issue there. They become small enough to get into cells and cause constant inflammation and cancer. But they are not aerosols.
Maybe very small plastic particles could get into air, but that usually happens when something burns. The most nasty microplastics occur when burning things.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Maybe the RAM shortage will make software less bloated?
8·29 days agoYes. 16GB is the bare minimum for regular usage on Windows. On Linux, it is a minimum for “regular to advanced” usage (i.e. more than 5 more complex programs open, Flatpak, Electron apps)

4·29 days agoWell, if they still use Electron crap that is already too much overhead

I mean that there is MIT and MIT-0 is already odd
