  • I did the same. Not a fan of how loud and chaotic he runs his stream with popup graphics, sound effects, chat roll etc. but that’s fine not everything needs to be to my taste. From what I saw he seems to use a bunch of sarcastic and inflammatory comments to make his points which opens him to being clipped out of context. Kind of fits into the “you’re not wrong, you’re just being an ass” category to me which I also think is fine. Even the whole 9/11 comment thing is understandable. I feel like it’s widely accepted that 9/11 was a consequence of the US’s worldwide aggression and heavy handedness with Piker’s comments reflecting that sentiment in an insensitive way. How many Iranians do you think are out for blood after having a girls school blown up let alone all the other shit going on?

  • I agree with you. It piqued my interest when it was first being teased and musk still had some plausibility that he was competent and well intentioned.

I live 8 miles from work in a rural area. I drive gravel roads every day, get feet of snowfall at a time, and I also have a need to regularly hall large materials. I recently got into a new to me 10 year old truck but was driving a sedan before that which was unsafe due to the heavy snows. I’d love a real electric truck and one that doesn’t have a stupid bed height. What I need isn’t available but there’s no reason it shouldn’t be. A 4x4 slate (w/o Bezos connected preferebly) would be sweet, a hylux champ, or a properly designed and built cybertruck would be sweet. I don’t want all the bells and whistles and gimmicks, just a cost appropriate tool to get me from a to b and to support the work I do.

  • Canada is alternative option. British Columbia has similar geography to Oregon and we likewise have national parks. There’s lots of regions where Canada and US each have complementary national parks on the border with hiking trails that cross the border into each other’s parks. I don’t know how those are being managed under the current state of affairs however.

  • The original justification for patents at least had some logic to it. In exchange for progressing the state of the art and telling everyone else how your new invention works you get a period of market exclusivity. There was/is the option to not patent ideas and keep them as trade secrets instead, at the risk of others figuring out your idea.

Unfortunately for all of us 20 years is a really long time for exclusivity at our current tech development pace and in no way are patents consumable information for laypeople. The nonsense filings that get granted and all the lawyers involved have turned it into yet another tool only available to the wealthy.
