Why do people think a dozen eggs costs $12?
A quick search turned up this 18 count of eggs for $9 at our local chain. And that was just the first result I found that had the price on the page (you have to click a button to see it, unfortunately, but it is there).
Essential people will, but non-essential people will not work.
On January 6, yes, but they don’t stop working. The shutdown only affects the rank and file government employees that do things like run the government agencies, air traffic control*, Smithsonians, etc.
*Air traffic controllers would be considered an essential function, so they would actually get the joy of continuing to work without pay, until a budget is passed, then they would get back pay. (There’s also a possibility of some agencies having money, for various reasons, to continue to pay essential employees.)
I actually think he does believe the lies he spouts. For him, reality is whatever he wants it to be in that moment.
The elections are run by the states, not the federal government. Congress keeps working during a shutdown. I can’t see how it would hinder the election.
It would have unpredictable effects on the election though, so I can’t imagine they really want to risk it.

Yeah. I grew up in the days of serial ports and parallel ports, and USB in general is so much better for most purposes. (I recall plugging my first mouse into the serial port…but wait! Where will my Hayes Smartmodem modem plug into then? Also, don’t plug and unplug things from the serial port while the computer is running.)
And USB-C is even better. My tablet needs a charge? Well my laptop charger is right here… My phone is low and needs a quick charge? Well my USB-C tablet charger will give it a decent boost very quickly. No worries about getting it plugged in the wrong way, either.
I have a docking station for my work laptop, so when I had to replace my personal laptop, a laptop that supported USB-C power delivery was mandatory. I don’t use it with the docking station very often, but knowing I can without an issue is great. My wife also has a Macbook that works on the docking station, too, in case she ever wants to use my dual monitor setup. All three laptops, from three different brands, are just plug in and go.
I gave up running an email server long ago - I thought it was basically impossible because too many spammers were doing it for nefarious purposes.
The second one gave me a message that the domain has been seized. :(
I’d add that quite a few of them have also been intentionally misled. They’ve been fed a diet of shit information over the past few decades, and it has an effect.
I came across a bowling arcade game that ran Linux. Still kind of wishing I’d bought it.
I saw a Trump/Vance sign the other day that had started as a Trump/Pence sign originally, and they just changed the first two letters of the VP’s name - the different color of those two letters made it clear.
It made me wonder if Trump picked Vance because his name was so similar to Pence.
Even if he wins, he’ll rage that there was tampering, because it should have been 100% Trump, in his mind.
Shouldn’t it be an X 2.0? Did he just deadname his own company?

I’ve mentioned this a lot lately, but I used Slackware from the late 90s (3.x days) until about 2009 on my desktop and laptop, and about 2017 on my server. I just got tired of dealing with dependencies and switched to Debian (all three run Debian now). I had the CD subscription and would automatically receive the latest version about twice a year.
Patrick Volkerding (if my memory is accurate) has my utmost respect, and I do feel a little bad about abandoning it, but I just didn’t have the time to deal with it any more.
Based on what I’ve seen Republicans claiming online, prompted by recent changes in the Democratic ticket, such a change would be very dangerous to our democracy and therefore we should go forward with Trump being President despite the minor setback of being dead.
That reminds me - for my Lenovo laptop, no issues at all with suspend and resume (just like Kubuntu). But my desktop was going to sleep when I first installed Debian, and it was NOT waking up gracefully; in fact I had to reboot it each time. Since I didn’t want it to go to sleep at all, I didn’t attempt to diagnose the issue beyond turning off the suspend mode in power management.
Those are those post-birth abortions Trump was complaining about.
