Ohh I’m trying this out as soon as I can, I was just in the process of getting rid of my useless accounts!

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Any Good Desktop or Phone Clients for Lemmy?English
3·5 hours agoHonestly I just like the UI, it looks great and it’s fast. It’s also customizable enough for my needs, and is native to iOS so it follows its design/UI rules. In terms of space it is indeed a bit bigger, but honestly it doesn’t bother me that much it’s only 40MB more. Last but not least, the dev team is very helpful and answers quickly on their Matrix chat.
I’m curious though, what features do you think it lacks?

Yeah sorry you’re not the only one who told me this, seems like my post wasn’t very clear
Oh yeah it is, but in my original post I was referring to the UI change. They worsened the UX in favor of their AI advertising.
Well…
I hope they never touch the mobile app ever. Upgrade the ai model? Add new languages? Sure! But please no ads or popups. Even Apple’s suite is making AI ads now…
Yep but he UX is the problem here, the homepage used to be the translator. Fortunately, you can fix this by bookmarking the /translator page.
I didn’t complain about that huge pop-up that shifts the whole UI down so you have to either close it or scroll down, but it’s becoming worse and worse.

I was intrigued and I had never heard of the fediverse before. The rabbit hole brought me here :)

Technology@lemmy.world•Scientists say quantum tech has reached its transistor momentEnglish
2·3 days agoYes they will probably never replace them because they’re actually slower than classical computers in doing simple calculations.
Quantum ML is actively being researched. However I am not informed at all about the advancement in this field specifically.
But the good news is that it doesn’t need to be portable, we can use them just as we do right now with remote access!

4·3 days agoOh I’m not saying it is technically impossible, it’s the opposite actually, it’s developing extremely fast. And usefulness and having QCs in our homes aren’t that far apart to be honest. Why would John Doe have a QC at home if he’s not trying to create a new medication, or simulate a molecule? Probably for the same reasons he doesn’t have an MRI machine in his living room :)

5·3 days agoYeah but you have to consider one other thing. Before creating classical computers, we already had theorized them, we had algorithms etc. We knew why we were creating them.
For QC, the pace of hardware development is faster than our ability to create algorithms. It’s very similar to what’s happening with the AI bubble currently, we’re investing heavily in a new technology because it looks cool to investors, but we don’t even have enough algorithms to run on it. It’s just a shit ton of marketing…

10·3 days agoI don’t think it will ever reach consumer households, since it requires extremely complex and expensive materials, tools and physical conditions. Unless a major breakthrough occurs but highly unlikely.
Also we don’t really have a use for them, at least to regular users. They won’t replace classical computers.
But you can already access some QCs online. IBM has a paid remote API for instance.
