  • Well, obviously. Look at R polling. Trump is the clear incumbent and he’s not even on it. The clowns on the TV can pretend that they’re holier than him for showing up, but they’re irrelevant. And the D’s don’t give a shit, they’re preparing for the inevitable: running against Trump.

A few years ago, when the D candidate field was packed full to the brim, emulating the hilarious R landscape 4 years before, I thought american politics couldn’t be more of a circus. This Republican field of nobody’s with no chance going through the motions pretending there’s legitimacy in the TV media charade is even worse. At this point it’s not funny, it’s just sad, there’s not even entertainment value in watching it anymore.

  • I never said anything about removing all regulations.

Just, think about the downstream impact of what you’re doing. This one’s fucking econ 101 level obvious, there’s a meme about shit this obvious involving a bicycle and a stick. There’s got to be a better, more well thought out idea. Here’s one off the top of my head: a 0.1% additional business tax for every location above 10 in the state that goes towards housing assistance for food service workers. That’s a win win; either you get more business diversity in the state or you get all the workers at all the fast food businesses a pay bump.

If you think this isn’t corporate capture and corrupt business politics you’re nuts. There’s a fucking exemption in the law for panera bread.

  • OK I fat fingered 20 instead of 60. That’s even better for my argument. To get the good pay you have to work for a huge multinational. Who else has 60 locations in the US alone?

What are you smoking? You know there’s a labor market right? And companies compete for workers? Imagine you run a taco shack and every one of your employees is waiting for the minute there’s an opening across the street at taco bell, or the opening of the new burger king down the street. What do you do? High turnover and employee resentment or raise wages? If raising wages means going out of business you’re stuck.

And then small minded people like you will be in a thread in 2 years quoting statistics showing how big corporations are putting smaller ones out of business and taking over all the industries, even going so far as to blame corrupt politicians and corporate capture, conveniently forgetting that you cheered on the very corporate capture legislation that led to it.

  • The internet is fine.

Listen. The era of algorithms and automated aggregators and what not feeding you endless interesting content is over. Before that we read blogs, she shared them on Usenet and IRC, we had we brings. We engaged in communities and the content we were exposed to was human curated. That is coming back. If we can quit it with the hackernews bot spam on Lemmy, it can be one of those places. You need to find niche forums that interest you that are invite only and start talking to people. The future of the internet is human.

  • I’m with you on most of that. But I think the problem is more fundamental: the money devalues at a rate of 2-5% a year.

Think about it. Why wouldn’t the wealthy just hoard money? Because you can’t just hoard money. It devalues. You have to monetize other assets. So they buy real estate, with money they made from you when prices go up but your wages haven’t gone up yet. They benefit from the cantillion effect and in the process siphon wealth from the bottom. and as they accumulate non-money assets, that effect compounds because the prices go up some more. The wealth gap, all of this, it stems directly from our inflationary monetary system. Their trick is that they get to fuck with the money.

  • If you think this has to do with party you’re delusional.

They’re all doing it. Yes, even your favorite one. Every time they do this budget shutdown thing, what do you think they’re doing? Trying to get smaller government? Trying to reduce greenhouse gasses? No. They’re holding each other’s money makers over each other’s heads to get more of what they want.

Every time the president signs a 100k page omnibus bill into law, what do you think all those pages have in them? The omnibus bill is a free for all, where everyone crams some special interest of theirs in, complete with kickbacks, and holds the possibility of a government shutdown over everyone’s heads. Every single congressperson works for at least one special interest group. Some of those special interest groups are foreign nations. All of them, every single one, is selling the US down the river to line their own pockets. They’d sell you into slavery for a buck. They take their peanuts, live a decadent life, make their kids rich and hollow out this country for a living. Every single fucking one of them.
