Christmas didn’t become an official Holiday here until 1958, Boxing day wasn’t an Official Holiday until 1974. The reason why Hogmanay is such a big thing here (it’s basically our national Holiday) was because Pre-Reformation, people when mad on Christmas. When the Reformation happened, that stopped (because Christmas “wasn’t biblical”), so everyone moved their festivities to New Years Eve.
