You didn’t give enough info for me to know what happened but generally imo Windows is harder than Linux. Full disk encryption really isn’t needed for most people. What you should do is HOME encryption. Or have a 2nd partition on your ssd that you keep sensetive things in and is encrypted and you keep that unmounted when not using it.

politics @lemmy.world•Democrats Need to Talk About Supreme Court Expansion Now
1·1 天前I mean at that point just have the supreme court be elected. Split the country up into 9 regional districts and have each one elect a judge. Every 2 years have 3 of them up for re-election and every 6 years you get a full reset.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Will opensource software be less safe due to AI?
211·2 天前It depends what you mean. Will open source software be less safe comparatively to closed source because of AI? No. Will it be less safe? yes. All software is less safe because of AI. Has nothing to do with open source.

politics @lemmy.world•Calls to Replace Jeffries and Schumer Explode After Democratic Wins
32·2 天前Personally I don’t think the issue is just your leadership. It’s all of them. The democrats are all just playing you guys for fools. Even the ones who talk about medicare for all and stuff don’t intend to actually do it save for very few of them, and once they get in a few months later they’ll be voting for Defence Budget expansions, and all that other stuff just like anyone else. Unless Americans get in the street and start burning shit down nothings going to happen. Be French.

politics @lemmy.world•Calls to Replace Jeffries and Schumer Explode After Democratic Wins
81·2 天前As someone who has absolutely 0 belief in Bourgoise Democracy I’ll tell you what I think will happen: They’ll put up some sacrificial lambs like that lady who was the greek ambassador and Lauren Bobert and a few other mid level crooks. They’ll bring them into congress and grill them and then maybe they get 10 years in prison max. More likely some fines and stuff. Trump will probably pardon anyone who is going to see real consequences. They’ll then take their money and run. Dems will control the White House and both chambers of congress after 2028, but they won’t pass public healthcare, or anything else like that. They’ll do some minor reforms and maybe a public option that will become a permanent battle every single budget hearing. By 2030 midterms there will be a snapback and “Red Wave”.
As for the foreign policy stuff I didn’t mention it because to quote Biden, “Nothing will fundamentally change.”
I hope I’m proven wrong. I really do.
so they can sell a 2nd cab to the other 2 people
Idk about Obscura VPN personally. Made a post about it here: https://lemmy.ml/post/53749507
Edit: I also find it weird that you include Obscura when you didn’t include Mullvad because Obscura is built on Mullvad lol. It uses Mullvad servers.

Technology@lemmy.world•Motorola Signature 27 with GrapheneOS will cost €1.900English
6·2 天前Well you realize there are two sides to a partnership right? Motorola is a for profit company. They want to make money. They’re not gonna subsidize our security. Graphene likely will support their cheaper phones in the future, but part of the deal was this phone being first I’m sure.

Technology@lemmy.world•Motorola Signature 27 with GrapheneOS will cost €1.900English
211·2 天前Well I don’t think Graphene OS devs chose the price of the phone lol. This is just the Motorola phone that has the hardware Graphene requires. Like a security chip. Give it a few years and this phone will be on the used market for 400$.

politics @lemmy.world•Haley Stevens triples down on Rogers endorsement after El-Sayed’s victory
15·3 天前Of course it is. It’s like Nancy Pelosi once said: “If this capital crumbled to the ground, the one thing that would remain is our commitment to our aid–and I don’t even call it aid–our cooperation with Israel. That’s fundamental to who we are." (source )

World News@lemmy.world•World-renowned AI scientist Geoffrey Hinton says it might turn out humans would have been better off without AIEnglish
12·4 天前Physics is literally not correct. We know that to be a fact. We have an approximation of how to calculate certain things, and we have some of the pieces correct, but we have no actual understanding of how things work at a fundamental level. Hence there is no way to rule out anything definitively. Fucking MAGIC could be real under the right circumstances for all we know. It’s UNLIKELY but it is not 100% known to be fake. THe language you used was definitive. That is what I take issue with.

11·4 天前You’ll find in general that smart people very rarely speak in absolutes on things such as this. Because the more you know about something the more you realize how much you don’t know.

World News@lemmy.world•World-renowned AI scientist Geoffrey Hinton says it might turn out humans would have been better off without AIEnglish
54·4 天前Oh look its the physics knower. What do you mean cold fusion isn’t possible? Did you come up with the theory of everything and fail to mention it to the rest of us? We DONT KNOW what is possible. Science is not even 5% of the way towards figuring out the entire universe. Such a definite answer is in no way verifiable. You could say it’s not possible for us to do it right now. That’s true. But saying it’s entirely not possible is about as backed by evidence as your typical religious claim.

LLMs chatbots are great at reading documentation and spitting it back out at you imo. So to people who don’t realize that the documentation is out there, or don’t know how to find what they need in it, LLMs can be helpful. I do think that you’d be better served actually learning to read it yourself tho as you’ll find solutions to things you didn’t even know to ask in there.
