  • American is a term synonymous with US citizen. I have done a fair amount of traveling and I’ve never heard another country’s citizen refer to themselves, read another country’s articles, or heard another country’s news refer to anyone other than the USA as “America” or calling its citizens “American”. I’ve heard “the Americas” though when referring to places in North or South America.

Caveat is that I am a US citizen so it’s possible that it’s said but I’ve never heard it used in any other way.

  • I dunno, man. My mind goes to positive reinforcement for doing the right thing. Disney is a maaaaaaaaaassive fucking corporation with a platform that can reach many many people. If we reward them for fixing their mistakes and punish them for going against societal contracts and moral values, then perhaps they will put out content that reinforces the societal contacts and moral values which helps fight authoritarianism.

Money is what they care about, not values, but even if they are spreading the values we want just because of money then they are still spreading the values we want. We need platforms that can at least even pretend supporting our narratives in the sea of right wing propaganda.

  • A Vox podcast (Today Explained) speculated that that Dems won’t put the gov into shutdown because they are afraid that the GOP would retaliate by eliminating the filibuster, and then strong arming literally everything and anything they want without opposition.

I am, admittedly, not super up on how politics works at this kind of a political level but that’s what was discussed. Another person said they doubted the GOP would do it because they like it as an option if an opposing party has control, but it’s an option. However, Dems don’t want to gamble and want to be sure of the best outcome.
