That just gave me some deep seated nostalgia, I forgot how much I enjoyed that week off of school we’d get. I feel so out of place trying to get my sons raised up sometimes. My entire grade size was never over 37 and that was with five combined towns going to the same school. We live in a town of fifty thousand people in a different state and everything feels so big to me even though I’ve lived here nearly twenty years. Anytime I’ve stayed in a real city for more than a night or two my anxiety goes into overdrive, I don’t know how people do it.
I had a shotgun and .223 in the back window gun rack of my truck through middle school and high school (started driving at 14 with a school permit) with shells and rounds in the glove box. Nothing was ever locked where I grew up either; homes, vehicles, businesses.
Granted I grew up in a town with under 1,000 people and the closest ‘city’ to us was an hour away and had a population of 25k.
That was forty years ago and I feel a lot differently about things and the world is a different place but when I grew up more students and teachers had guns in their vehicles at school than didn’t. Everyone hunted, I pulled off and shot a coyote in pack that was stalking around one of my teachers herd of cows on the way to school one winter. I took the coyote into class and gave it to him since I had him first period.
Humans are just as much part of nature as everything else
Fix it tickets everywhere I live give you three days to a week from when it was written to get it fixed, you just show the next cop that pulls you over your dated ticket and tell them you ordered the part or have an appointment with a mechanic or whatever. I believe the first half of your comment but the second feels a lot like one bell end to the whole “three sides to every story” saying.
This has really peaked my interest. Are these the types of bearings you are referring to? I’d like to read more but not misinform myself. https://www.savree.com/en/encyclopedia/tapered-roller-bearing-rail
A 29’ boat isn’t small, what kind of walk-in closet do you think people have? Your comment makes you seem really out of touch.
I like bone in wings usually because I prefer dark meat but I will also order boneless sometimes when I want the convenience. I prefer options mostly I guess. I get bones in food that is boneless several times a year though. I will have a Jimmy Dean breakfast thing for breakfast a few times a week and I eat them gently because at least one of those per package will have a bone fragment in it. I just had a turkey sandwich last week I made from deli meat and it had a bone fragment in it. I’ve sent feedback and UPC’s get responses that they would check quality control yada yada and sent coupons. I don’t bother anymore, I was letting them know because it fucking hurt my tooth and was hoping it would get fixed. I still have two little bone fragments sitting on my desk I need to toss out now that I think about them. I usually let them sit on my desk for a few days so I can glare at them in disappointment while I’m working.
I really appreciate you taking the time to provide the additional details. These kinds of bread crumbs help me a great deal in knowing where to look to continue learning from others and really helps to feed my enjoyment and continued education.
Oh ok, thank you. I thought it was specific hardware which I think got my search focused around Star Trek display replicas.
I do see this is the same thing I read about and watched a video of but it is in English, I’m not sure why I had trouble finding something in English, anyway, I can’t wait to try getting this implemented. I really appreciate you sharing.
Do you have a good source in English? I’m looking for some nice panel solutions but what I found so far is a guy that did a complete EIB install with touch screen and is in German. I’d really like better touchscreen HUD access to my home assistant and haven’t made much progress from the information I’ve found myself.
If you want to see art though you can just ask a computer to make it for you
I got insurance. I’d help load the truck rather than get shot if someone broke into my house and I was home. This has mostly been a fun project hobby that I can continuously tinker with while working in my office from home. I’ve had a lot of trouble finding a hobby I’m able to stick to that is mentally challenging and rewarding to me. The progressive learning has been great and has me excited to continue with further integration. That said. I will have evidence for police and insurance. I also enjoy watching the deer and other wildlife without going outside which tends to change their behavior.
That was one of my attempts at playing my hand that I was being sarcastic. I tinker with the shit weekly and yes it is way beyond what any reasonable person should be expected to invest or understand. It’s just become a hobby of mine and I was trying to be funny, which I’m not very good at.
The only part I coded was sending the api calls to cameras to turn on/off siren mode. I relied on a lot of other folks reverse engineering to help me along.
Also, thank you, that’s nice to hear from someone in that line if business
I was making a joke using the absurdity of what I put together as a hobby project over the past couple years as an example to reinforce the comment I replied to. I’ve spent my whole career in IT and it’s absurd the level of knowledge a lot of career or even hobbyist IT folks expect the general public to have.
My generator cost $8k installed.
I ran all the cables myself, still cost $1k for the materials.
Doorbell camera $200.
PoE cameras averages to $174 each or ~$2,500
UPS’s: $300 combined
MiniPC: $500
Cage and mounts: $150
Isolated cameras: $30 ea
SD cards: $15 ea
All told I have over $13k invested easily and it would easily be over twice as much without knowing how to do it myself. Anyone giving folks shit for using WiFi security systems is out of touch.
I don’t know why everyone doesn’t do what I did. I have a WiFi doorbell camera but I also have 13 other cameras that cover the entire perimeter of my house connected to a PoE switch. My switch is on an UPS and connected to an outlet my natural gas generator cutover powers. My office (includes my miniPC running HAOS and frigate) is also on an UPS plugged into outlets my generator cutover powers in a locked cage inside a vented drawer with a 120mm exhaust fan to keep air circulation going in the drawer. All motion is recorded and saved to my local NAS (that is in the same locked cage) for 30 days and it syncs the recordings directory to the cloud. I have isolated cameras that look like usb chargers that record motion on a loop to 128GB micro sd cards aimed at all entry/exit points, hallways, and points is interest. Everything is pretty much set it and forget it. I get notified of any motion on my property regardless of my location and the jpeg captures are immediately sent to a dedicated email I setup should something unforeseen happens to the recorded video. If my or my partners cell phone is not on the WiFi all the cameras (except the doorbell and isolated ones) are set to siren mode on movement detection and they are surprisingly loud especially if two or three are going off at once.
Agreed, I take showers in the morning but sometimes I’ll end the night with a really hot bath, it helps my body not hurt in the morning if I’ve been working hard that day. I will take a piss before I get in the tub but I’ll be damned if I don’t almost always pee some while I’m laying in the tub relaxing. It’s never seemed to be anything to give a shit about to me but some people do seem hyper sensitive to that kind of thing. My partner and I have peed while in the bathtub together before and it didn’t gross either of us out. Maybe it would be more gross if our urine was dark yellow or more noticeable beyond feeling the warmth for less than a minute.
Do most people really not have a birth certificate and ID? How do they complete an I9?
