On one side I have seen where he’s continued negotiations with them to help them resolve issues without a strike which is pretty beneficial.
On the other hand, if that’s not as good as it looks, then this could show that he realized he fucked up not letting the rail workers strike. If he’s going this hard on other strikes and supporting unions it may be to garner support for re-election. Even if it’s only for his own gain, being heavily pro union is a win for the people.

I live in a very hilly city with very few sidewalks. Even going a block away typically needs a car to be safe. A car is a necessity even in the city because of its layout. Ya, it’s a fixable problem but let’s be honest. You can’t bitch about people not using bikes in a place that’s not safe to use them. Change needs to come from the top down.

I’d love to change, but with degenerative disc disease it’s tough to walk through the store at times, let alone actually work out. I threw out my back standing in line at the post office last week.
Where I live, there’s a lot of elderly people. It’s a very aged population. I’d imagine they’re going to struggle to be healthier just like I would. So expecting biking and walking out of this area is just not going to happen.

I’m not completely sold. I’m going to do some math, but full disclaimer, I am using national averages and recommendations so mileage will vary.
That being said, $20k/ year comes down to roughly $9.62/hr to send our kids to daycare.
So let’s figure out an estimate of what it should cost. First we need the salaries of the employees. Average wage for daycare staff in the US is $11.26/hr. Now we need to find how much each kid pays to their wage. Recommended staffing levels say a maximum of 6 kids per adult. Every daycare I know is understaffed so we’re being generous with 6:1. So $11.26/hr divided by 6 children is $1.88 per child per hour.
Now there are other expenses. So on average your employees wages are 15-30% of your revenue. Note, there was no guideline for childcare, this is a general business guideline.
So we have a range. That $1.88 needs to be 15-30% of what that child costs to send. $1.88 divided by 0.15 is $12.53 and $1.88 divided by 0.3 is $6.26.
Now, I live in a really awful place with a lot of corruption. I don’t have much faith in much of the national averages. In fact during my research the national average cost is only $14k but the $20k is an actual value of what me and my wife pay at one of the cheapest daycares in the area. It’s also a poor city. Most of the people I know make under $10/hr. Many make minimum wage which is currently only $7.25/hr. I’d wager more heavily on the $8-$8.50 range for employees which makes our final cost range $4.40 to $9.50 which means best case we are still paying slightly over what we should expect.
Maybe I’m being overly pessimistic since my city constantly ranks as one of the worst places to live in the country but I think childcare is just another division run by a bunch of for profit companies trying to squeeze everything they can and screw over as many people as possible.
It’s too fucking expensive to be reasonable. $20k a year for fucking childcare. That’s almost $10/hr wage. Tons of jobs around here don’t even make that much. Realistically you need to make even more because there’s taxes coming out of the $10/hr. Anything less and you’re better off just not working at all. Then you need to calculate your bills. If you need to pay rent, utilities, gas, car payment, etc you need to be making $25-$30/hr to get by. Realistically a single mother isn’t making it on her own and it’s disgusting.
Not to mention that $20k doesn’t get you jack shit. We still need to supply food, diapers, drinks, and even a fucking pack and play for her to nap in as well as a fucking high chair. All that $20k gets you is a couple people sitting in a room with 20 other kids letting them all do their own thing.

Actually SSN’s ARE supposed to be used that way now. It wasn’t intended when the system started because it was difficult to get everyone one. But once the system was established they started pushing federal agencies to use them. Then in the ‘60’s when the digital revolution began it just made sense to use them. But the law has been changed since 1943. The new cards don’t even have that line on them anymore.
I’d pay for social media. But not from any of the current giants.
These websites cost a lot to run. They make that money via ads and selling your info. If a new social media came along with a month subscription, no ads, and protected my data then I’d be fine with it. I don’t trust Twitter to do that though. I’d see them collecting the monthly fee, still giving me ads and still selling my data.
I work from home and only have a couple meetings where cameras aren’t necessary. Usually explaining how reports are calculated and such.

Why don’t we just use county lines for representation until maps are drawn. It’s predetermined and while counties do typically lean politically, they’re not developed around political lines. That way we don’t halt all progress until a map is redrawn. Delaying the redrawing is a strategy on its own so take away the benefits of delay

This is a minimum on the visa, not on skilled workers. The argument is that very skilled workers already make more than that. But I’ve worked in restaurants that rely on H1B waitstaff and they pay them $4-$5/hr. These are the places this would target. They’ll go straight back to hiring waitstaff at minimum wage vs hiring foreign at $25/hr. Ya minimum wage sucks, but it’s better than being jobless.
Whereas skilled labor, especially tech jobs, those people are already making six digits. They’ll already clear the bar for $25/hr. So nothing will change for them and it won’t upset major labor markets that don’t abuse the system.
Phone numbers can be spoofed and calls can be redirected. Or, even better, conditional call forwarding is supported by most carriers. It can be set up and you’ll never know. Then they get the phone call and not you
The H1B visa is abused by companies to pay garbage wages and not hire local employees. It needs a safety net. If they can’t find someone local and need to fill that position with overseas work, so be it. But put a higher minimum wage on it. $25/hr minimum on foreign workers would get Americans jobs very quickly. And for the companies not abusing the visas and needing highly skilled labor, well $25/hr isn’t much and they’re already probably making more.
They like it because it’s cheap and easy. They pay a phone provider for the 4 digit phone number and type in a script to generate a random code and text it. There is no oversight or maintenance.
Pairing with an Authenticator app is easy, but a little more work. Pairing with a mobile app can get a little tougher and require development plus maintenance in making sure the app cannot be spoofed and works with updates. Using a physical drive for 2FA is a pain in the ass to set up. From a business standpoint, 2FA only needs to work enough to remove liability from your business. If someone spoofs your cellphone number that’s on the phone provider not them so that’s enough to remove liability
This is complicated.
In one hand, law enforcement has to break the law at times to enforce it. A cop will need to speed to pull over another speeder. There needs to be barriers. There needs to be lines even law enforcement cannot cross. But sometimes law enforcement needs to break the law.
In this case, what if they’re impersonating a child to catch a predator? What if they’re undercover and need a fake account to pass as legit. There’s acceptable cases for fake profiles too.
Again, there needs to be boundaries and limits. But some is acceptable.
Also, who’s getting prosecuted for having a fake account? I think as long as your not scamming people your fine and not going to get in trouble with the feds.
Tbh I think Futurama is perfect for streaming. It’s a fantastic show that I could easily binge but I’m just not feeling the waiting each week for an episode. Some shows I will wait for the episode and will plan for time to watch the premiere. But Futurama, I keep forgetting about. I’m enjoying the episodes and think it’s a great season, but I’m forgetting about it shortly after. I would gladly binge 10 episodes once or twice a year though and be happy with that.
