Fediverse@lemmy.world•What do you like about the fediverse and why?English
1·2 days agoIt’s a mixed bag. It scratches the news aggregator chat itch, but until it starts putting up per diem user traffic numbers in the millions rather than hundred thousand, I don’t get the same hit from knowing my posts are getting the same mainstream exposure. On the flipside, I usually get a better quality of response so I’m definitely jazzed about that.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Switched from reddit to lemmy because they banned my accountEnglish
6·4 days agoI really do detest these corporate run sites lacking the two brain cells to get that you are allowed to kill in self defense, and discussing it is not the same as “threatening violence.” Bud. Mod. DUDE. When you are fighting malignant societal cancer, there is no valid argument about “dehumanizing them;” They did that to themselves when they started removing our rights to self autonomy, free movement and expression. This goes beyond “philosophical disagreements,” it’s an unbridgeable ideological schism at this point.

8·4 days agoI got here because some bot posted political ragebait in r/AskReddit and I got tired of censoring myself, so I noted I was, and the Mods got butthurt about it. It was venting, more than anything, but (boom) permanent account suspension. I even deleted the posts immediately because I still hadn’t reloaded the page. Hasn’t seemed to matter.
Really bites too because 90% of what I was on there for was Mine/Hermitcraft content and engagement.

politics @lemmy.world•Sen. Lindsey Graham dies at 71 after ‘brief and sudden illness’
9·5 days agoThere’s a meme theory floating around that Lindsey was blood sacrifice to keep McConnell going.
I prefer to believe that by keeping McConnell on life support, he’s propping the door open.
(and as per rule 4: I’m merely pointing out that a meme exists, as it’s tangentially relevant to the discussion)
I mean, the water does have to come from SOMEWHERE, so strictly speaking that way of looking at it is not wrong, just ignoring a few steps.
a more fun fact is that Livyatan was almost certainly alive at the same time as Megalodon. Given that modern Orcas regularly prey on Great white sharks, a similar dynamic was probably at play in the late Miocene

1·5 days agoNot just that, but in his case it might be the real healing he needs. Or he could come out the other side with real viable opinions about the prison industrial complex based on lived experience, which was kind of the draw with him in the first place TBH.

5·10 days agothe issue was that he had all the right policies. That’s what stings. As I said, most of us were willing to look the other way for a few transgressions so long as he asserted that he was a different person than he was before. This accusation was just a different beast entirely and couldn’t be downplayed or ignored. Also it really was the last straw.

13·10 days agowe were willing to believe the narrative that such people could be redeemed. He seemed genuinely to find distaste in his past actions and was openly repentant. That’s what makes this mildly infuriating because this is the bridge too far. He’s spot on on the issues, seemed humble and well spoken. To put a pin in the r4pe allegations for a second, the larger issue is that he CAN get blackout drunk and then do things he can’t even remember. Drunk posting on reddit before the modpocalypse is one thing, but if those things include SA? Yeah, we have to make the hard pass now. There’s a line, man.

125·10 days agoUnfortunately this seems 100% credible. Her therapist and another ex boyfriend are both corroborating the allegations. The woman even said she shares his politics. I’m not mad at her bravely coming out with this but the timing is rather suspicious. She should have spoken up a year ago, or at the very least ahead of the primary. There’s a guy we can slide over to, he’s known and vetted in the state (Troy Jackson, who’s a logger by trade), but he has about as much charisma as a grilled cheese sandwich. Also he’s almost retirement age.

11·10 days agoif it’s a structural engineering problem then it’s probably solvable. perhaps they can be added like fins on the blade which would disrupt turbulence, reduce drag and sound, much like how an owl has ragged feathers to allow them to have silent flight.

3·10 days agosolar cells are basically a membrane. it’s usually the mounting frame that adds the weight.

I mean, if he’d rather we open a clip on his ass. I’d have thought words were preferable, but if that’s what he wants…
care to walk that back so we can try to play nice?
