The US elects a misogynistic fascist, and misogynists feel emboldened. Who could have seen this coming? I’m as surprised as y’all are—which is to say: not at all.

Same. Got hit with a derecho in 2008, and it didn’t matter what you believed—people came out and helped clear trees, shared their food, offered a hot shower if their heater worked. That time sucked, but I still have a fond feeling from it because of how everyone reacted.
I like you.
Somebody reminded me of something Mr. Rogers would often say: “Look for the helpers.” I think you’ve embodied that spirit here.
I kinda hope that’s what it looks like TBH. I had hoped to build that kind of thing in the relative safety of a Democratic presidency, but it’s still possible (and might even grow faster) under a theocratic, authoritarian regime.
You are correct. It will almost certainly get worse. Will there be awful climate catastrophes? Yes. Will we hit and possibly break 2°C? Probably.
Should we give up, because we know we, in this current generation, won’t live in a future with clean energy? No. Many people who fought for Civil Rights did not live to see the fruits of their labor. Many suffragettes died long before getting the right to vote. None of them knew if they would succeed.
And while many of us will meet the same fate, we have the opportunity to do what our parents and grandparents could not bring themselves to do: ensure the generations after us have a better future than they would have had otherwise. They will face hardships I probably can’t imagine, but I will continue to fight and hope and give them a strong foundation upon which they can build their own destiny.
Take time to grieve. Know that your feelings are valid, and when you’re ready, the rest of us will still be here.
That’s for the young. I would be less than useless to that cause. But organize a group of people to take care of each other? That I can do
Some good news for a change.
This. Until people unionize and organize, the billionaires will continue to do whatever they want.
You seem to be under the impression that I’m obligated to take every claim and see if it’s backed up by evidence.
I’m not, and I don’t feel any compulsion to find out if Vaxry has made rational claims or not. That’s the beauty of using subjective reasoning; it’s not reasonable for anyone but the subject (me).
Be my guest and see if he’s justified. Tell other people. I stopped caring what he has to say here the minute I read that paragraph, and I choose not to hear him out any further either way.
I knew that’s where you were going. I knew it.
I said nothing of the sort about the validity of his statements. I did not engage in an ad hominem (i.e. Vaxry is an asshole, therefore he’s wrong). I did not imply that it was easy to make a compositor. You were the one that read all those things into my statement and took umbrage on his behalf.
I implied it sounded like complaining, specifically about other people simply existing and having hobbies that intersect with his own. If his opening salvo is “almost all the other compositors suck beyond opening terminal windows,” on a blog post titled, “We don’t need more Wayland compositors,” I’m not required to be interested in what sounds like hyperbolic criticism.
And since that choice is based on my entirely subjective assessment, I’m not required to justify shit.
Nope. Have you?
The reality is that, although there are quite a few standalone Wayland compositors, you don’t hear about most of them, because almost all of them suck in one way or another if you go beyond opening terminals.
Ah, classic Vaxry. I’m sure he would love it if his compositor was the only one.
I lost interest after that.
Ew, you went through my post history from almost a year ago? Gross and creepy. No wonder y’all can’t win converts to your cause if that’s how you behave.
Alright. Well, gotta deal with the pain of having a criminal conman for a president on our individual ways, I suppose.
I’m not really interested in criticizing people, myself. You can do what you like and convince people to join you in whatever way you deem fit, but in my experience, they tend to shut down and stop listening (maybe it’s my delivery). I’d much rather show them there’s hope elsewhere, especially because right now, that’s what a lot of people want. Honey vs. vinegar, and all that.
I appreciate your answers, but I still don’t follow the logic. Thanks anyway.
For my part, I’m not sure it is, though lack of votes didn’t help. The meme is perhaps meanspirited so soon after the painful news, but here’s my question, and this is genuine: now what?
Trump will get to pick a bunch of lower federal judges and probably two more SCOTUS judges. What’s the way out when it seems to me that he and his jackals control the military, the police, and the judiciary? Seems like a hopeless setup to me.
Harris lost, so what’s Step 2?
I don’t get it. Are you happy Trump won, or…?
No, he won it. 10mil people stayed home, Trump was +10 with Latinos, and +13 with Gen Z men. And he won the popular vote. Harris was down three points with women.
As uncomfortable a truth as it may be, this is who the majority of Americans wanted. They looked at Harris and Trump, and said, “I want the conman, rapist, felon.”
This is America. Time to reflect not on the campaign but how Americans as a whole got so scared and selfish that they think the mirage of a strong man will save them.
I don’t care what people say on NixOS, this OS is not ready yet, I don’t have time for this shit when I’m working and that server will be going back to debian next summer.
I like the idea behind it, but I’m with you. I’ve tried to learn it and given up several times. There’s just not enough tutorial info, yet, to get people up to speed, and making changes seems to be a bigger deal than pretty much every other distro out there.
Its current state feels like Arch for people who think Arch is too easy.
It was this. I was really engaged this season. I was fully on board to support her, but towards the end, I had to remind myself why I was excited. I was already going to support her, and I had forgotten what made me excited more than once.
If that happened to me, a fervent supporter of what she represented, everybody else who was more lukewarm forgot completely. She was the candidate of change at the beginning and was Joe Biden 2.0 by the end.
If Dems don’t figure out how to capture excitement in their next attempts, if they can’t energize the young who are so naive they follow Instagram influencers without a second thought, they’re gonna keep losing to these terrible but charismatic Republicans.
