I signed up to Lemmy without knowing much about instances, can’t remember exactly why I picked lemmy.ml but it wasn’t politics.
Is this really a generalisation people have? Should I move…?

Haha yeah blame those victims
Just go double or nothing a few times! Simple!
Well goddamn it. I was just having this convo on another thread. My main point: don’t spread lies especially when there is SO MUCH real shit to laugh at them for…
Edited from my other comments elsewhere:
JD is a creepy weirdo, but the couch story was made up.
I fucking hate it when people feel the need to make up stuff about someone who already has plenty of real red flags that need attention.
Yes it’s funny, and it’s working in the short term. But any lie, once uncovered, makes it so much easier for even the worst positions to be defended. ‘See, they have to make shit up about us, they have nothing’. Bam, now even all the other factual points are discredited in the eyes of many people who may have been on the fence.
You know the whole ‘fake news’ thing being thrown around a lot by one side in particular? It doesn’t seem like a good idea to give them more examples they can correctly point to when they want to discredit you and anything else you say.
Keep calling them weird, keep having fun with it. It’s fucking great. But use the real shit. There’s so much
Really? You haven’t seen a rise in facts being deemed false? Or maybe news being deemed fake? Maybe there’s even been a new term created for it that is being thrown around a lot by one side in particular.

From an outside perspective on the other side of the world, I disagree. Any lie, once uncovered, makes it so much easier for even the the worst positions to be defended. ‘See, they have to make shit up about us, they have nothing’. Bam, now even all the other factual points are discredited in the eyes of many people who may have been on the fence.

Not directed at you (unless you already knew it was fake, I guess) - I fucking hate it when people feel the need to make up stuff about someone who already has plenty of real red flags that need attention.
Here’s the first one I found. Maybe there’s more, who knows? https://www.abc.net.au/news/2008-04-29/emotional-buswell-admits-to-chair-sniffing-incident/2419558
So I’m assuming you misread it, but let’s pretend for a moment that it was a Democrat pouring water into a Republican’s bag - that would make you ok with it?
Try to not fall into that ‘us vs them’ at all costs mentality… You should hate it even more when ‘your team’ does something shitty like this, it lowers them and makes it far easier for the opposition to look better in comparison
Hmm. While I can see that and appreciate the inclusiveness of it, it still feels like the wrong choice to me. Maybe times are changing (obviously) and I need to get used to emojis being used in a more serious tone? But I don’t know… Are we there yet?
Holy shit I hadn’t clicked yet and hoped you were joking. I’m sure they mean well but I find that really disturbing, what a weird use of emoji…
Damn, yeah hard to give any benefit of the doubt when it’s so opaque like you say. Very concerning
Not arguing, just want to be able to quote this confidently - can you link a source for this?
I can find some info about Australian-made aviation parts going to other countries as per existing agreements, who use them in aircraft that are then supplied to Israel. Which is absolutely still shit, but I can’t find anything about direct weapon sales to / from Israel
He makes $210,000 per year…?? I’m not saying important and dangerous jobs like this shouldn’t be well compensated, I’m just very surprised that it IS this well compensated
A chunk of solid ice that big at terminal velocity? I’m betting yes, very much yes, very messily yes
It gets worse the more I read the article… This guy spent a few weeks in blackface, thinks that he ‘became a black man’. Then goes on to conclude that while it might be harder to thumb a ride as a person of colour, systemic racism is completely over?? We did it folks!
This fucking guy is only claiming that he’s an IDF soldier in an attempt to intimidate a woman who is calling him out for being aggressive towards another young woman too. Pathetic
Right?? Their very first point is such inflammatory bs, it’s insane that they would try to prove it with that source. The most basic reading comprehension will tell you that they are making stuff up.
Most Gazans agreeing that the actions of Hamas on Oct 7 were ‘correct’ does not equate to those same Gazans agreeing with every single Hamas stance. Such a dumb leap to go from that to “Most Gazans want to kill every Israeli”… Pathetic, evil, pro-genocide bullshit
No no no, I think you misunderstood me. I’m saying that your link was much much better at telling the full story, and it was the other articles I read (posted elsewhere) that failed to tell the whole story. It was those other articles that were disgusting reporting.
Edit to put the link back up, because I think it’s important: https://www.austinchronicle.com/news/2023-04-07/might-have-to-kill-a-few-people/
Huh? Source?
