To me, that seems to be likely. Reading his son’s words about his personal struggle with addiction in the context of someone who could be capable of such an act leads me to believe he did.

He has the kind of mind that constantly escalates an already bad situation until it becomes out of control and seeks finality.

As if his mania is something tangible and deserves to be carried through to fruition.

His father read his work and saw the beauty in it, upon looking at it through this context I see red flag after red flag.

But, we will just have to wait and see if that is the case. I genuinely hope I am wrong.
