Controlling media and having a fact-checker pop up are two different things. Let people spout their nonsense, but flag sources of misinformation as unreliable.
He was just a Fledditor. Living in a Lemmy woooorld.

Very interesting “democracy or philosipher-king” point, though maybe another option in between is possible. I believe it is people’s responisibility to self govern and that noone has the right to take that away. I don’t want people to be told what to think, but I also don’t trust them in our current system. I’m saying we need an apolitical tool for flagging lies to help people not accept everything that fits their current worldview. Also, on your point later in the comment chain, I firmly believe elected officials should be suspended and imprisoned if they call for violence and then someone else performs that violence. Rhetoric has power and using that irresponsibly shouldn’t go unpunished. Majority rule with respect to the minority is my most important principle.
Nah bruv, as an american, the people are too dumb to not need some sort of protection from hate speech and ideas. A fact checker needs to be a mandatory public service at this point. I feel the same way about the homeless bum who shouts at everyone downtown that their participation in consummerism is destroying everything. If they called for violence, it would be a step too far.
Hey, I don’t judge. I might only pirate media I’ve already bought (like when I couldn’t find my copy of a movie) but firmly agree with Gabe Newell that piracy is a service issue first and foremost. Additionally if you can’t own the game you buy I can’t view it as stealing. If there is a crack for Civ 7 or Dragons Dogma 2, I’ll probably buy a copy then get the cracked version for performance.
Far Cry 6, Nier: Replicant, RE Village, Hogwarts Legacy, etc. Source: https://gamerswiki.net/has-any-denuvo-game-been-cracked/
Edit: The first three games I listed came from the subreddit mentioned in the article.
Lived near there once. It was truly amazing to see how unified the entire populus was. Nobody ever got into fights over anything, and there certainly weren’t any stabbings at a bar in town while I was there.
Thanks for explaing it so succintly for those that read after. I’ll add that this also expands the options avaliable to Ukraine in future combat fronts, pulling Russian attention and resources, and likely securing more current information on Russian troops. Not that Aurix will try to think about it or be convinced.
Well, that’s your perogative I guess. The physical location, history, heritage, and burden on the neighbors where you move to matter to me, but can understand prioritizing lives over places to a degree. Someone still needs to hold aggressors accountable though, and a proxy war feels more responsible than getting directly involved risking even more escalation than current. Thanks for responding.
Ukraine didn’t decide on war, Russia did. Also, suing for peace doesn’t really seem to be working for Palestine, does it? At what point would you be willing to fight for what you think is right? Would you risk your life to protect your loved ones from a murderer? I would.
Probably the nicest insult I’ve seen on greentext forums.
All your talk makes it sound like you think they are making a “wrong” decision. Is that true, and if so, what would you do if you ran that country being annexed and bombed?
Very moe orc
Ok, and to clarify, do you mean disgusting as in the opposite of attractive, or that you feel an internal wrongness when looking? I’m guessing it’s something way beyond either, otherwise it wouldn’t make sense to find others “insane” for liking the performance.
It sounds like you feel very strongly about this. Instead of shouting online in a way that accomplishes nothing (which, again, you feel very strongly about) why not volunteer your time to reach out to the group you think should be focused on? You’ll help what you think is important and maybe get some coaching on how to effectively persuade people.
You’re being an internet troglodyte. Let the Lemming use the words they want.
Not how I would try to pick up a date, but shoot your shot I guess.
To be fair, it was about the bigots too. I had to look up the song after a certain group blew up about it. It’s a lovely song about inclusivity and what it might take for us to stop fighting eachother.
Side note, do you have a link to the full video? I had to use a VPN to try and find it and got terrible quality.
Legitimately curious here, what did you find disgusting? The message of the song, the callback to classical art and religion, performers in costume, or something else?
I’m not who you asked, but I often think of supression tactics against forms of free speech used in the US that some countries in the EU do less. Not all of them (UK online speech policing and arrests as a counterexample), but voter supression, union busting, and law enforcement response to protests have been handled in various countries in ways I consider more free for the citizens.
TLDR: Intimidation tactics and biased response happens less in other countries.
