I love this idea that somehow we are saving money when making cuts to many life saving and necessary services. Like OK, so we cut funding to NOAA, NASA, Medicare, Medicaid, social security, the post office, the department of education, the IRS, the EPA the CDC and some how there’s not going to be a big oh shit moment when we realize that those things were required for general maintenance of the country.

Like, I’m gunna cut a lot of cost by no longer changing my tires on my car and just driving in the rain with bald tires. There’s simply no way that would end bad for me or anyone else in the vicinity of my automobile.

I’ll have to watch that movie. But for now, I’m just going to fucking speak my mind.

I’d argue that any time any word is banned by any government, it’s scary.

I think it’s important to ask some basic questions to all affected school district superintendents.

1. Why is the school resorting to surveilling my child?
2. What data is collected on my child?
3. Who do the schools share my child’s information with?
4. How is my child’s data collected?
5. When is my child’s data deleted?

I’m sure you an come up with more.

You can totally just install the latest release straight from the git repository. However, how often will you remember to check if there is a new release? If you want your apps to stay up-to-date you have 2 options. (Ordered from least effort to most effort)

1. F-Droid (minimal setup, slower releases)

• Install F-Droid or one of the many 3rd party clients (I like Droid-ify the most right now)
• enable the IzzyOnDroid F-Droid Repoin the Repository settings of the F-Droid client
• install FreeTube Android

2. Obtainium (moderate setup, quickest releases)

• Install the latest release of Obtainium directly from the git repo
• go to app configurations search for Obtainium and click on the add to Obtainium button so that Obtainium can update itself when there is a new release.
• In Obtainium, click on Add App. Then insert the release page URL for FreeTube Android (https://github.com/MarmadileManteater/FreeTubeAndroid/releases) as the value for App Source URL, then click the Add button next to it and you are set.

I’ve always thought of the political spectrum more like a circle.

I love it and yes, sometimes youtube makes a breaking change that any dev needs to find a work around for.

I use freetube on both because I can manage subscriptions better on it, and export to newpipe or freetube desktop easily. Freetube also includes sponsor block which is great.

I also keep newpipe on my phone as a backup since sometimes it works when freetube doesn’t. I auto-update freetube from fdriod but let obtainum auto-update newpipe straight from their git repo so I know I got a good chance if having at least one working app.

I haven’t tried pipepipe, it’s been a long time since I watched a billibilli vid. (BGM!!!)

I started using FreeTube on both desktop and android and never have to sign in anymore. I also get a lot of cool features that aren’t available in YouTube.

I’m glad he did, now there is a clear line from when it was acceptable to when it wasn’t.

At what point do you consider replacing a drive?

When I worked at a data center, I would notice drives would die around 50k hours. Some last a lot longer but when your testing hundreds of drives you start to see the patterns. So when my drive get to 50k I replace them preemptively just to not have data loss. I might still glue them km a redundant backup or something like that.

Yeah, you’d have to figure out how to define a “problem” first. It’s a better IDE to define what metrics might indicate you need to replace soon before a problem actually happens.

You could just run it in a cron and have it tee to a file or even send an email report
