In my case the algorithm bored the heck out of me. I stopped using Facebook since 2015. Even the youtube algorithm has started boring me now and I am happy with newpipe.

I just started using Mastodon. It’s been around 10 days or so. I am already having a lot of good engagement there. I guess “no algorithm” works best for me. I used to get bored of scrolling twitter or even reddit within 15 minutes or so. On Mastodon on certain days I can easily spend 45 minutes or more.
I agree with you on this. According to me the writing and character work is subpar and so I have stayed away from other works by the author. But this series is very popular and I don’t get why that is the case.
I personally do enjoy world building, but not at the cost of characterisation. So I guess this series is definitely not for me.
Will try that out next.
Me too. Tried the first. Didn’t make much progress.
Red Rising. I tried to like it. Couldn’t get through more than 20%. Seemed very YA and characters seemed very flat.
I started watching star trek in my late thirties. Tried TOS, couldn’t tolerate more than one episode. Then started TNG and fell in love half way through first season. Now I am on Voyager. According to me, it’s a good replacement for me for TNG. Not sure what I will watch once I finish this.
I have started following hashtag, like books, reading, technology, cats, dogs, etc. I have also started following a few people that I have noticed share content that I am interested in. I am finding interesting content. Also, certain amount of engagement in the comments. So far, a good experience. It’s only been a few days, however.
I hardly use reddit at this point. I never used twitter. In fact, using the Fediverse got me curious and decided to check out Mastodon. Just been using it for a few days and trying out stuff and must say I am kind of enjoying it.
I went through about 50% and it’s great. Very easy to understand. Saving it for future use.
I like how the name can be read in 2 ways: shit just works and shh it just works!
On Mastodon I have used the option of “muting” users whose content I am not interested in at all. This has improved my feed a lot.
