Summary

Donald Trump’s re-election has sparked fears of an “imperial presidency” as he plans to expand presidential power, backed by a compliant Republican Congress and Supreme Court.

Trump’s agenda includes dismantling federal agencies, mass deportations, cutting education funding, restricting transgender rights, and a renewed “America First” foreign policy, potentially isolating the U.S. and straining alliances like NATO.

Critics warn of authoritarian tendencies, with plans to target political enemies and loosen rule of law constraints.

Civil society groups anticipate resistance, but experts fear Trump could invoke extreme measures like the Insurrection Act to quell opposition.

Do you think we ought to relieve posts like this?

Like, we all know what he’s going to do, we’ve had months and months of many outlets telling us what he’ll do. We don’t need the reminder.

I kind of agree. I don’t see how it’s helpful to speculate all of the insane things he can do. At best your just making people complacent, at worst your giving them ideas.

This is not to say that we shouldn’t post every thing he actually does… I just don’t see how these speculative articles are helpful to anyone other than people trying to make money off doom scrolling.

Fear and anger drive engagement and people love those sweet updoots.

The medium is the message, etc.

To be very fair there is value to experts confirming something that is already widely speculated, and there are organizations and groups who need to prepare for likely Trump actions. It’s just that in this case what they’re confirming is obvious and therefore not very useful.

Are there any historical examples of fascist regimes losing power without a violent takedown?
