After a woman accused Graham Platner, the Democratic Senate nominee in Maine, of rape, he denied the allegation but said he was taking time to “reflect” on his path forward.

He’s probably going to anyways, but there’s not time for a replacement… Why does he get to just slink off and leave the seat to a Republican by default?

He fucked it up for everyone… The least he could do is own up and open a slim path for someone else

It’s possible to replace him if he drops out of the race in the next few days. I suspect a decent replacement would stand a better chance at winning the election.

Like on the ticket as a Democrat and everything? I thought it was too late, and an independent doesn’t have the time to build name recognition

If there’s a better way to salvage this I’m all for it… I’m just so sick of how politicians can shit into the fan and just slink off without consequences

              Per the NYT

Graham Platner can be replaced as the Democratic nominee for Senate in Maine if he withdraws from the race by next Monday, and state law would then give the state Democratic Party until July 27 to name a replacement.
