I am pissed that West is running on the green ticket. I really liked him but now he wants to be the spoiler vote and help get Trump elected. He smart enough to know this wrong and that he only hurts the Democrats in our two party system.
What are the Democrats doing for you exactly? IMO Biden is the spoiler candidate, if he has nothing to offer it is on him to court the voters that are dissatisfied with their current options.
Are you really implying there isn’t a difference between what Biden is doing and what a Republican would do in that office? It’s clear Biden’s policies are far superior to what Republicans have to offer in every way, and this has serious implications for all of us, especially the most vulnerable among us
Biden is the spoiler, he should feel ashamed and drop out.
Dr. West is the only one that has real policies and plans to change the status quo.
I do not think anyone else has a chance against Trump.
Feel ashamed of what?
Dr. West is the only one that has real policies and plans to change the status quo.
And absolutely no path to achieving anything except making a Republican president.
Looking at the long term, 3rd parties will help bring in new sets of people that are not the status quo.
Local and state level grassroots movements is the overall goal.
I just don’t see that happening without a move away from fptp systems, whether RCV, STAR, or some other system. And even in Maine where RCV is used there’s still a seemingly disproportionate lack of third party candidates, so it doesn’t feel like they’re doing the work to build a bench of viable candidates at the local and state level.
Looking at the long term, 3rd parties will help bring in new sets of people that are not the status quo.
Can you show one example of this over the last century?
Can you show one example of this over the last century?
the Socialist Party of America is basically the only party that’s done anything of this sort at the federal level and they got nuked by a combo of being anti-war in 1917 and losing a lot of their big tent to CPUSA after 1919. you can probably point to the Nonpartisan League in ND and Farmer-Labor in MN as state-level examples, but past that it’s pretty sparse. not really a lot of groundswell for CPUSA, and historically the other significant “third party” bids have just been Dixiecrats getting mad at the Democratic Party before returning (or becoming Republicans).
These are good goals, and i like what dr. West is promoting.
But if he draws votes away from Biden, do you think any of West’s proposals will have a chance under a Trump administration?
He’ll be on the ballot. Nothing happens, until it does. The odds aren’t good but I’ll take an infinitesimal opening at real systemic change over choosing between a giant douchebag and a turd sandwich. There is a universe where Joe Biden strengthens his position by offering actual material concessions to voters that are considering voting for Cornel West. If you’re worried about independent voters choosing green over blue, you should be pushing Biden and the Dems to make a more compelling case to those voters. Their failure to do so is their missed opportunity.
How have they failed? What do you want Biden to do differently?
i want biden to ignore the supreme court and forgive the student debt anyway. after that, i want him to abolish the BoP, FBI, DEA, ATF, CIA, and NSA. he is the chief executive and congress has stupidly been consolidating power in the executive. after that, he can use his power as commander in chief to redirect the defense budget to training medical professionals and start putting boots on the ground in hospitals to give free medical care. he can turn a couple aircraft carriers into public housing. if the pentagon doesn’t like it, they can literally quit.
he can pick any 2 of those for my vote.
Not a Biden fan myself, but will West even be on the ballot in all states? How’s the establishment candidate the spoiler if the “main candidate” isn’t even an option everywhere?
To be fair nobody ever accused a Jimmy Dore fan of being intelligent
Nice.
I see, you specialize in having thought provoking discussions with others.
3rd Party voters don’t vote for bloods or crips, they just sit out if no one meets the standard.
I didn’t imply anything. Republicans are worse is not a direct answer to my question. It is insufficient to play lesser evil when either option will drive you off an existential cliff.
Biden is protecting LGBTQ rights, strengthening labor organizing protections, enforcing fair housing, strengthening consumer protections, investing in technologies and creating policies to reduce carbon emissions and protect natural spaces, reducing student loan debt, making the tax code more progressive, going after wealthy tax dodgers, and so much more. What in the ever-loving fuck are you talking about
a claim made without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

On inauguration day 2021, Biden fired pro-business Peter Robb, then general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board, replacing him with pro-union Jennifer Abruzzo in February 2021. Biden’s NLRB has pursued action against Starbucks’ and Amazon’s alleged anti-union activities. On August 24, 2023, the NLRB reinstated Obama-era policies regarding union elections, speeding up the timeline by removing restrictions such as resolving litigation before holding an election.
Biden became the first US president to run for election with a unionized campaign staff for his 2024 election run.
Biden made Juneteenth (June 19) a federal holiday in 2021, celebrating the end of slavery in the U.S. In March 2022, Biden signed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act into law. With the enactment of that legislation, lynching was made a federal hate crime for the first time in American history.
In October 2022, Biden pardoned all past federal marijuana possession charges and announced an inquiry into whether cannabis should be removed from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. In December 2022, Biden signed the Medical Marijuana and Cannabidiol Research Expansion Act which was the first standalone cannabis-related bill ever passed by the United States Congress.
In December 2022, Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act, which repealed the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), required states to recognize other states’ marriage certificates for LGBT Americans.
On January 25, 2021, Biden signed an executive order that lifted the ban on transgender military service members. This reversed a memorandum imposed by Trump.
In January 2021, Biden directed the U.S. Department of Justice to reduce their usage of private prisons and ordered the attorney general to not renew contracts with private prisons, citing the need to “reduce profit-based incentives” for the incarceration of racial minorities.
The Biden administration rescinded work requirements for Medicaid recipients. The administration opened a special enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act as well as extending the normal enrollment period, citing the COVID-19 pandemic. The administration provided larger premium subsidies.
In August 2022, President Biden signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. The law allocates $64 billion for a three-year expansion of Affordable Care Act subsidies originally expanded under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and $265 billion for prescription drug price reform to lower prices, including providing Medicare the authority to negotiate the prices for certain drugs.
In August 2022, Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 into law. The bill included significant federal investment in domestic clean energy production, combatting climate change, and healthcare; it aims to reduce U.S. carbon emissions by 40% from peak 2005 levels by 2030.
There’s so much more. Are you saying you prefer the Republican version of all these policies?
I prefer the repeal of taft Hartley and the abolition of the nlrb. the respect for marriage act repealed doma but who authored, introduced, and voted for doma?
lifting the ban on trans people in the military isn’t good: he should be dismantling the military industrial complex instead of giving it a link and purple paint job.
how many “welfare reform” bills did he author and vote for before his presidency? I’m not saying some of what you said is worse than republican policy. some of it is a vast improvement even over his own past policy. I’m saying he’s not good enough.
he wants to be the spoiler vote and help get Trump elected
he has never said that.

Damn that’s harsh. Why’d he want to strike an autoworker?
Trying to wake them up, the duopoly will not change the status quo.
Youre right, but for this election isnt the one to chance it.
A vote for anyone other than the democrats is giving a boost to a guy who wants to install himself as dictator for life and throw his opponents in jail, etc
Fearmongering is used in every election.
Trump and Biden have been president before, people are less likely to fall for the same old same old.
For this election it is not fearmomgering. As long as FPTP remains, voters are trapped voting for either a corporatist democrat or an even more corporate fascist dictator wannabe.
You can vote for a third party if you want, but this time around it will 100% help Trump.
He’s butt hurt because he doesn’t get praised, so he’s trying to throw Democrats under the bus.

West, who’s running as a third-party presidential candidate, told The Hill exclusively on Wednesday that he intends to go to Michigan to support those calling for a higher wage and a check on CEO profits.
The insurgent West has attracted attention for running as a Green Party contender offering a more progressive pitch to voters than what he believes President Biden has brought to the table during his first term in office.
Biden and White House aides have so far declined to physically go to the UAW strike, though the president offered official support for union workers Sept. 15, the first day of the rally.
By running on a third-party ticket rather than challenging Biden for the party’s nomination, West is also looking to present another option to former President Trump in 2024, a move that Democrats have cautioned could backfire and help the Republican front-runner unintentionally.
West’s expected trip to the Midwestern battleground is notable because it’s one of just a handful of swing states that could determine the outcome of the White House in November.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), for whom West was a prominent campaign surrogate in 2020, won the Michigan primary in 2016 against Hillary Clinton, providing a surprise blow to establishment Democrats who had previously missed the populist streak in the state.

He’s too late. A republican already announced he was going to exploit the striking auto workers
