American historian Timothy Snyder believes most people in the West are well aware that Russia is committing genocide in Ukraine, but says many remain deeply reluctant to say so as this would oblige them to intervene more decisively while also explaining their earlier inaction.
as a european: we are not afraid. we are not ready. it’s more important to supply ukraine then to get ready join the war. if we prepare for war with top priority, ukraine may get less support. by the time we join, ukraine may already been wiped out. that’s unacceptable. so we prepare for war only with lower priority. ukraine first. if we supply ukraine good, maybe russia has already been pushed out, when we’re ready. that would be a bonus and we could send troops to help fortify ukraines borders and defend the harbors.
