The Democratic minority leader was asked about opposition to his leadership from new members and said the “issue is not me. I’ll be re-elected as majority leader. The issue is focusing on the American people and what they want.”
Looks like nothing will fundamentally change. Start your prepartions now because at this rate in two years it’s gonna get so much worse, and no one’s coming to help us.
This guy is addicted to his power the same way billionaires are addicted to always getting more money.
Just going to ignore the electorate huh?
Complacency kills, Chuck… we’ll see how long you last.
None of the party leaders will step aside willingly, and the donors will work to see the party destroyed before the leadership is displaced. It will all have to be done by force.
Aww how cute they think that voters are thinking of them when voting for democrats. Do they also pretend like it was them who brought the victory?
Please, don’t even think of it.
Please, everyone, write your reps every day demanding change in leadership from schumer and jeffries
If we have Republican reps, can they still have a say on who are the chamber leaders.
I believe the entire chamber votes for House Speaker, but I might be misremembering
In the case of the Senate, I don’t think that’s true. I think each individual party votes for Senate leader, and they become Majority of Minority Leader based on which party has control.
Schumer and Jeffries need to sit the fuck down. We didn’t vote in a massive blue wave just for you two shitheads to ruin it.

If Chuck is leader, prepare for a red wave in 2028. Because Dems won’t do anything with him inharge, disenfranchising the very same people who made last night possible
I was about to say you’re completely right but something dawned on me. Let me know what you think:
No matter who is Speaker and Senate Majority Leader for the next 2 years, next to nothing is getting done, and the damage done by Trump will persist long after these 2 years sad to say. Why? Because there is no filibuster-proof majority, let alone a supermajority consensus capable of overriding Trump’s veto power. So the best we can do is limit the damage of Trump.
And we all know how knee-jerk reactive the electorate is. They’ll blame leadership come 2 years when things still aren’t fixed.
So what to do. Let Schumer and Jeffries ride this fallout, and then during ‘28 primaries, leverage this internally during the Democratic Primaries to leapfrog AOC to Schumer’s US Senate spot and have someone like – oh say Mamdani – run for Jeffries’ seat (just spitballing).
because there is no filibuster-proof majority
Yet a rule change to kill the filibuster takes only a simple majority to pass. Keep that in mind as you hear their excuses.
It seems that process is a little janky but it’s definitely the most viable path to get rid of the lazy / silent filibuster. This and ending the Electoral College’s impact to Presidential outcomes by passing the NPVIC should be top priorities for Democrats.
But the ratio to override a presidential veto is codified in the constitution.
My greatest fear is that the honest truth that very little (note: not nothing) can be done to change things even with the change in congressional power will crush the spirit that got us to this moment.
We have to get the message out there that this is just the first leg of a marathon and real change cannot come without the executive branch.
Im hopeful again that the pendulum is swinging back in the direction of progress, but we have to be realistic so we don’t get dispirited in the next two years and lose ground in congress even if we take the presidency back from the fascists.
You can’t have our mayor. Out of our cold dead hands
haha, bet you wish you had guns now in NYC! /s
Given Mamdani’s national stage presence, I think he’s destined for Governor or U.S. Senate. I doubt he’d push for a House seat, but he’ll always be a New York representative in one form or another.
If she doesn’t go for President, AOC will definitely primary Schumer. In a few more years after that she’ll probably make a run for President. Once she does that, I bet Mamdani goes for her seat.
Or better yet, ousts Gilibrand from her seat.
It’s an interesting idea but unfortunately is just a path to having the same fascists rebrand over the next two years and pick back where they left off, gaining momentum to win in 2028.
Jeffries and Schumer-style politics is to turn invisible and wait, make speeches that are academic and milquetoast and that people forget before each sentence is even over. All that’ll do is let everyone forget that every single GOP lawmaker was actively destroying the country, and leave it to Fox News to rewrite blame to the “do nothing” Democratic Congress.
The Democrats need to constantly fight the next two years even when they won’t win. They need to not pull any punches and send bill after bill to be vetoed, impeach even where it’ll fail, defund and block every unconstitutional Executive Order and take it to the Supreme Court if needed, and remind everyone who the problem is, force the GOP to take positions. People can’t be let to forget.
Absolutely not. Jeffries is buddies with Kushner and funded by Israel.
And Schumer is a do nothing POS. I honestly think if I saw him or Trump standing next to each other I’d punch Schumer first
Given how toxic Trump has become, I have a feeling they might find enough votes to remove. We’ll see if they even try.
Chuck Schumer predicted he’ll be the majority leader in the new Senate, which he called a “generational remake.”
Bro, which generation do you think you are in this scenario?
Right? A generational remake doesn’t reuse old, failed characters from the past, but “remakes” the idea from the top down.
I sure fucking hope not
The issue is focusing on the American people and what they want."
what if what they want is you not being the house majority leader?
Yes, you are in fact the problem Chuck.
Schumer and Jeffries need to go if Democrats aim to actually achieve the things they want. Terribly uncharismatic and possibly compromised leadership.
Congratulations to putting some brakes on this Trump regime, but the '28 Democratic Primaries effectively begin today.
I remember being at a parade some thirty years ago when Chuck rolled by on his float. My father went from silent to rather animated, “Hey Chuckie boy! FUCK YOU, CHUCK!” I was still rather young and so I asked what just happened. My father took a moment to compose himself, then stated, “I voted for him to get to where he is and he betrayed me. I have every right to tell him to his face that he failed me and exactly how I feel about it.”
He’s been a disappointment since then.
