I can’t find what this seems to be referencing anywhere on news sites nor Wikipedia’s controversy section for the games which has several other issues. Do you know what this refers to?
The day before, there was controversy over the national flag. The main delegation, including team leader Lee Sang-hyun and 112 people from various sports, arrived in Nagoya, the host city, on the 17th. However, Shin Yu-bin from table tennis and Seo Seung-jae from badminton, tasked with carrying the national flag upon arrival, entered the airport empty-handed. They were barred by Nagoya Airport authorities from holding the flag.
According to the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, even a proposal to enter with only the flag without the pole was rejected by airport authorities citing their own regulations. This led to complaints from the delegation and officials, but local police reportedly refused to budge.
Worse still, they weren’t even informed of the exact reason for the restriction. Except during the Tokyo Olympics, when the flag couldn’t be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic, South Korean delegations have always entered arrival halls with the national flag at every Olympics and Asian Games. Even during the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, Chinese authorities did not interfere when the delegation carried the flag.
Another article on a different post mentioned that they meeting delegation had performers dressed as samurai and one man dressed as a leader who invaded Korea in the 1500s and caused one of their bloodiest wars in history.
