Been wondering about DIY solar/battery, though not sure how much solar power I could get by covering my lawn with solar panels. Small garden and high walls. Certainly would get power but how much?
Stuff like jackery batteries/solar. Probably not them as they seem expensive for the capacity compared to some other companies but either way something like that. Ideal setup would be plugged into the mains and only draw from that when the battery is depleted, charge the battery from solar when they are generating power.
Not sure how confident I would be with installing it on the roof myself. I could probably get a kW or so in the garden comfortably in an area that gets near full day sunlight. Significantly more when including areas that are more often in shade depending on the time of day/year.
I have 2 kWp with grid-tied microinverters DIY on my roof, which generates 2/3rds of my net demand. A smarter setup would use sensors on your breaker’s wires (like a Shelly 3EM), minimizing feed-in and maximizing self-consumption.
