The topic of gas stoves ignited a heated debate last year when a Biden appointee suggested they could be banned because they posed a risk to human health.
But a ban isn’t in the works — and this week the administration will finalize a scaled-back plan to make new stoves less energy-intensive.
Seems like a similar strategy as the EU’s energy standards, though probably behind in terms of net efficiency.
The main issue with gas stoves is that they’re used to sell gas furnaces. We need stop building new gas-fueled homes before we start sunsetting gas stoves. Also the fact that induction stoves are so expensive in the US is a serious issue that needs to be solved first.
IEA recommendation is to stop the sale of gas boilers beginning 2025 to reach net zero fast enough.
