It’s way easier than this: if the game includes in-game purchases with real money of any type, the game should be +18. That’s all. A kid can’t have a credit card for obvious reasons, I don’t understand why would they have access to a system that asks for one.
Make all games with loot boxes/micro transactions rated M?
I mean I know it’s not perfect because a lot of parents will still buy the game for their kids, but maybe it being M-rated will make them think twice? Also, it’ll make developers think twice about putting those mechanics in their game.
In addition to the rating it should have an ugly warning on all its promotional material, like cigarettes.
“Warning: this game requires additional in-game purchases and gambling to access all of its content”. On the screen for the entire duration of any trailer.
