Why do people think the majority or even a large percentage of people in the US at this point will die on the hill of their sexism and racism?

Some of those people exist but most people want to hear a politician speaking to real things, they don’t have the energy to engage in the degree of identity politics bullshit the DNC and DC class of pundits seem to think everyone does. Even if you are somewhat sexist or racist if someone is promising you well thought out cost of housing policy reforms at a certain point you have to look after your family and support it to keep a roof over your head.

Sure MAGA cultists won’t or at least won’t get caught doing it but that isn’t the point. It is about speaking to everyone else.

A woman can absolutely win the next presidential election, there is a good chance our best option is a woman. It comes down to how the next presidential candidate can speak to the issues that are crushing everyday people.

I think Kamala got totally screwed over by Biden, I think there is a chance if he had stepped out earlier that she could have had more time to differentiate herself from Biden, but there just wasn’t enough time. A significant amount of voters didn’t even know Biden had dropped out it happened so late in the process.

That can be true along with the fact that Kamala is not the right candidate now and she won’t win. I say this as someone who criticized her heavily on certain issues but still voted for her because yeah Trump is a fascist.

Also… it isn’t because she is a woman it is because she doesn’t have a track record of being genuinely for everyday issues like housing, healthcare and genuinely progressive reform. There are better people for this moment. We need people like AOC, Rashida Talib, Ilhan Omar etc…

We have a lot of amazing women in politics in the US right now all the way to nearly the highest levels of power, Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton just aren’t the right people for the moment, it isn’t about them being women though yes the US is sexist as hell still.

Feature not a bug of war

I know this is a strong reaction, but I stand by it, this is very important for the health of the Fediverse.

If I were part of the Fuck AI community on Lemmy World I would be concerned that once more and more news articles and journalism comes out about how some US tech companies were knowingly complicit in the Palestinian Genocide as a profit seeking venture I would be nervous that the Lemmy World team wouldn’t begin to become pretty uncomfortable with the Fuck AI community.

I would love love love if y’all migrated somewhere that was more willing to confront the ways in which AI has become a tool of obfuscation for complicity in a globalized system of violence that transcends the confines of any one single country.

If you have used a gas stove regularly, your health has been impacted to some degree, that is simply what the research shows.

You are making food in an enclosed space that you are breathing in you fool. Of course it matters. I am not going to stoop to this pedantic of a level to continue to argue with you. If making food with your stove hurts your health and makes your body feel worse, it impacts the holistic experience of cooking and worse it hurts your health. Period, end of story.

Air quality can’t be separated from judging a stove that sits smack dab in the center in of your home.

Gas is not better than electric resistance stoves for one very serious, insurmountable issue, gas stoves give off a non-trivial amount of gas into the living area they are being used in, even when kitchen hoods are used. This is not something the gas stove industry wants to have a conversation about so we don’t here in the US.

Because of distrust and paranoia that is applied selectively to electric cars because they are associated with foreign made.

Which is why Tesla is collapsing as a car brand in the US, most of the people who like Musk do not really want to buy an electric car, it just seemed like the cool thing to do while getting a “self driving” “smart” car.

Everybody who doesn’t like Musk won’t buy a Tesla because they suck anyways.
