The “unusual voting pattern” is people actually realizing that Republicans suck, for once.

REPORTER: Speaker Johnson, you’ve announced that you aren’t running for House leadership next year, can you provide us a few words as to wh-
JOHNSON: Sorry, I’m not aware, I haven’t read anything on that 🏃♂️💨

Tbf, the title is talking about the interstate popular vote compact, which is state legislation to assign electoral college votes according to the popular vote result, if the signatories have a collective majority of them. So technically this isn’t landing on Schumer or Jefferies’ desk at any point.
But yes to your point on Citizens united repeal and stock bans and just cautiously optimistic that Jeffries/Schumer will allow anything to change.

Welcome!!

It’s clear to me Michigan voters also don’t regret ditching you as a Senator candidate.

Yimbyfornia can’t come soon enough

Yeah to sum up my opinion for Dem caucus members is vote-shoo-to-Schu-no-matter-who at this point lol. If no one volunteers, then they would best end-run around any stall attempts by him or his backers.

Sanders tends to be more reliable with bills that push the envelope to progressive policies, but yeah there’s plenty of leeway regardless. I only worry about the leader and whips of both houses, whether Schumer especially is going to slow walk any form of progress or if the progressive wing can end-run around the manufactured consent to lethargic politics that Schumer seems most comfortable with.

Even if some people don’t like Booker for his stances with respect to Israel, I think he has the energy required to actually effect the change demanded by Americans, which will still include progressive voices, whereas Schumer is using the leadership chair as if it was a retirement home like McConnell was.
If AOC wants to be President in 2028 (this is her choice and she hasn’t indicated anything yet), I think even a two-year stint as House Leader will give her enough limelight and any big achievements will be able to bridge her to becoming the Democratic nominee (over scumbags like Newsom), Ossoff is good too to potentially be set up in a similar fashion. She is presiding over some important committees already, but this is a potentially huge opportunity, not that I would be upset with Garcia, Khanna or Raskin becoming leader either.
Jeffries is set to become the first African American sworn in as House Majority Leader in January, I know many Democratic establishment don’t want to take away that moment from him, but this moment calls for way more than ceremony.

Republicans hate minorities, they can’t cope with being one again in Congress…

Actually as it stands with Sanders caucusing with Democrats, then they can afford to lose Fetterman plus one rotating “objection of conscience” position for bills they want passed, like Turek for example, if he’s trying to take a bigoted stance on trans people once in a while. MS and AK will be bonus pickups.
I honestly think Turek won’t object on Medicare bill even if it implicitly includes help for trans people, unless pressed. Similar to how Republicans rotated between Rand, Murkowski and Collins to sometimes object to a bill just for show.
It was closer to the other way around an hour ago but oh well, too bad. The fact that an alternative is even imaginable there…
Young Americans. Don’t forget tonight. Don’t ever forget what the last two years of evil that was allowed free reign in the USA and across the world.
Also. I didn’t hear a peep about Idaho this cycle, and even they’re going Independent?!?!? (Early results showed 47% I 40% R it’s no longer). Like yeah they are a bumfuck redneck state but even the guy they’re sending actually might support Bernie-style efforts to defeat anticompetitice oligarchies, billionaires, and might pass wealth taxes on them for deficit reasons…

Celebrate tonight, but deep down my thought is that if Cornyn was chosen, things might honestly be totally opposite in Texas still on all fronts. Which means the Ted Cruz replacement won’t be nearly as easy.
Good to hear some polls have been voted dry.

It’s retirees who have time to meander to the polls in their bumper stickered golf carts during the working hours. We need workers to, borrowing some sensational headline vocabulary, slam the polls as soon as the workday is done right up until close.

Trump-connected folks bought oil stocks on Monday after they dropped the price by floating openness to peace talks, it’s time to raise them once again!

It was still hours away from Tuesday in the USA but I guess it was TACO Tuesday in the middle east…

What was
a $8.9 billion investment in US chipmaker Intel
Is now
the value of the government’s 9.9 percent equity stake crashed from almost $40 billion to well under $30 billion
, still an unrealized 200%+ gain, so I guess the government “bought the dip” in a way. Though why Republicans back their favourite President engaging in casual nationalization still baffles me. Maybe any Democratic president should employ a similar path to nationalization disguised as a bailout: to legislatively constrict the business model of any company they want to acquire at discount “market rates”, then restore something along previous regulatory conditions.
I want to make clear that I support trans people participating in any recreational activity, I support their rights as much as anyone, and that this initiative throws a burden on all female children for the sake of a punishing a few, the competitiveness argument is totally based on assumptions and prejudice not backed by fact-based evidence, the issue is pushed by conservative culture war propagandists, and all that.
That all said, I don’t think most WA voters who voted for I-638 did so because they hate trans people, or think they shouldn’t exist as people. Hateful and spiteful people do exist but they are a minority. Rather, on this specific wedge issue, again based on flawed prejudice pushed by conservatives, opinions seem more to be framed around something similar to why 40 year olds can’t compete in an Over-50 bracket of a tournament.
