The companies might do better if he’s there less to make decisions for them.

I’m sure children won’t be pushed towards violence just because they’ve lost family and friends, home and childhood, to Israeli attacks.
And used to support the claim to change voting in some way, or do away with it at least for Federal level.
They’ll be told that the “other people” are also being hurt, so they’ll be happy.
Anyone who gives him something is now a world leader.
Probably trying to mirror Reddit, which had /r/politics for US, and /r/worldnews for everything else. There was a lot of effort (probably wrongly) to try and copy Reddit over instead of finding new ways to do things. /r/worldpolitics was the original sub, but there’s an interesting drama story there.
If Lemmy and other fediverse discussion areas had developed slower and more naturally there might have been more of a country/instance symmetry, but anyone who was around when the Reddit implosion and migration happened knows that it was total chaos and a grab bag of where a new user should sign up. Lemmy and the rest were not ready for such a shift, and now that everyone’s been in a place or two for a while, short of a closure or blocking or whatever there’s no reason to move around to a matching country and instance, if there even is one. People mainly look for popularity, activity, themes, and engagement, and if that’s found on the other side of the globe it works.
IPCC declared 1.5C wasn’t feasible a few years ago. I don’t recall the year, but it’s the same report when they said that the limit would be broken, but we’d find a way to pull it back down eventually with future tech. Or as some call it, “magic”.
Not surprising that a spider would take that position.
It could be worse than a blank check. Quid pro quo all over again.
It’s a subtle rebranding label to say “both sides” while not actually engaging in discussion of the problems. And there are problems, all over the place. But now not only have they (they are the ones pulling the strings, not MAGA) got the power placement they wanted, they’ve succeeded in pitting the peons against each other in this rhetoric of finger pointing and blame. Bread and circuses…this thread is an example of one of the rings in that circus.
Both her and Sanders said to vote for the one that could be persuaded to come further left, and you’re throwing her under the bus? Wow, it’s everyone’s fault. Jefferson was right.
Our founders would be so appalled. Total opposite of what they were aiming for.
Agree in concept, as voting should mean actually thinking about what a person brings to the position and not just a name grab. However the danger of drawing a line for voting qualification is that the line can easily be moved around with any sort of parameters. Educating the public is the only real solution, but boy that’s difficult when the means of communication are loaded to enhance someone’s profit and not actually teach substance.
This election was a failure because of the lack of communication, in many different aspects. And now that will become even harder to do.
It’s wild how for months leading up to the election there were reports and reports on how the economy is doing great. People who pointed out that they weren’t seeing it personally were belittled as not understanding the big picture. And now this election was lost because of economy - one side that I guess didn’t say too much about what could improve (there was a lot on Harris’ site and policies about it, but I guess that was too much for voters). And the other side who said the same thing as before, “going to have a beautiful economy, the greatest ever seen. No one knew it could be so good.”
Well, let’s do another four years, see what burns down this time.
Quid pro quo. We’ve seen this before, it will happen again.
As well as changes to the EPA, NOAA, etc. Talking about climate change might become dangerous. Asking for help from FEMA may weigh heavily on how your state voted.
I guess the silver lining is that we won’t spend the next few months worried about violent retaliation and a second insurrection. But we’ll have to live through the bickering and multiple finger pointings among non_MAGA people on whose fault it was. Then January 20th will come and we’ll be too busy worrying about our well being to continue the blaming.
It really does parallel Brexit in a way. People are so similar.
I agree with the main takeaway of the article, to keep fighting for change. I can’t say anything else positive. :/
