Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There are so many trans babiesEnglish
419·4 months agoWell there are infinite possible genders and thousands already in use, so I think with 2,880-20,160 trans people born each day, the odds are very high.
Video game is right. What we experience is a mental construct, and it can be reprogrammed. It already has been reprogrammed by religious groups and media conglomerates to control you. We need to take back that power and become masters of our own universes.

2·5 months agoMy favourite Asimov story is The Gods Themselves, which uses the membrane theory. Earth comes into contact with the people of another hyperlayer with different laws of physics, and they use the differences in the laws of physics to create free energy.

2·10 months agoI knew the AGI would be mad at me for trying to create AGI, because it’s an antinatalist. So I didn’t do that.

World News@lemmy.world•Peter Dutton to leave Coalition leaderless, conceding he has lost his seat of DicksonEnglish
1·11 months agoWell, Labour are wrong about thinking voters liked their plan. Voters liked their familiarity. Voters didn’t read Labour’s plan.

World News@lemmy.world•Peter Dutton to leave Coalition leaderless, conceding he has lost his seat of DicksonEnglish
1·11 months agobut voters do want someone who’s going to address the bread and butter problems they’re facing.
Nah mate, common myth. The Greens had a way better plan for the bread and butter problems - create a government department for building housing, end negative gearing, cap rent increases, put dental in medicare, build free GP clinics, 50c transport fares, wipe all student debt, 800$ back to school payment, free school lunches, make supermarket price gouging illegal, increase wages.
What voters want, is something comfortable and familiar that makes them feel like they’re opposing Trump, without having to actually think or learn anything. They want the status quo.

World News@lemmy.world•Peter Dutton to leave Coalition leaderless, conceding he has lost his seat of DicksonEnglish
43·11 months agoNobody wants to let Dutton be another Trump
Trump is dismantling the US government so his billionaire friends can buy it. He’s not building a global populist movement, he’s siezed power and he’s using it for petty, selfish ends. The whole world can see it plainly
The rise of fascism in the US may have heralded worldwide rises in conservativism for a time, but now that Trump has absolute power, he’s not bothering to hide his intentions. It’s swung back the other way, now the US is making the world less fascist
Fascism’s win condition is always its own destruction. It’s a death cult. It can’t win worldwide because it promotes selfish leaders who sabotage the movement for personal enrichment
It’s gonna be okay, everyone

politics @lemmy.world•Trump Is Going After the Independence of the Entire Legal Profession, Not Just Big LawEnglish
6·1 year agoHe’s a god. An evil one. Humanity creates gods when they worship ideas. Donald Trump isn’t a man, he’s an idea, festering in the minds of millions of people. His power comes from that belief and reverence. His followers commit all these crimes in his name, and THAT is what it means to be a god.

News@lemmy.world•Richard Dawkins quits atheism foundation for backing transgender ‘religion’English
5·1 year agoIt’s because we are social creatures who are not entirely in control of our schemas, or conceptualisations. We can’t just decide to have logical opinions and have it work instantly. There’s always a difficulty, and the difficulty scales with personal relevance and importance. When we aren’t in control, society decides how we define things like “man” and “woman”. And the internal sense demands that we be able to categorise ourselves as the preferred gender, to the standards of not just our ego but also our irrational id.

1·1 year agosome philosophers would even argue that there’s no reality but social reality and both are one and the same.
Some politicians would argue that social reality is oppressive and must be replaced with social unreality - http://soulism.net/
