“Refuse illegal orders” is like the military version of “stop paying taxes and stop going to work” but at least a magnitude worse. It sounds good and virtuous but there are practical life-changing consequences for doing so.
UCMJ will chew you up and throw you to the side very quickly. Prison is almost a certainty. A dishonorable discharge hangs on you like a felony conviction. And that’s assuming they won’t use illegal force on you or your family.

Conservatives probably want to go back to the times where there was no genuine correspondence between the media and the military. Back then, everything about war that was released to the public was carefully curated to ensure the taxpayer never lost faith in our troops or lost the appetite for more war. They think allowing independent journalism into their business was a key mistake that helped lose them the war in Vietnam.
Fascists don’t deal in journalism, they deal in propaganda. You don’t need Pentagon access to get marching orders from the Ministry of Truth, and this is likely the start of that, and why de-facto state media like Newsmax and Fox aren’t interested in keeping their connections.
Even if they aren’t slaughtered on the spot, they would become a most-wanted fugitive and their normal life would be over. Kristi Noem would be proud to announce on Fox that the standing orders for the manhunt were to shoot them dead on sight. They would have to hide in the woods or some other concealed place and at least be familiar with SERE concepts if they wanted to survive another 72 hours.
Idiocracy was a mediocre stoner comedy that I think we’ve come to expect too much of as some sort of biting social commentary.
The people making these decisions are, for the most part, not stupid. Myopic, maybe. But mostly they’re just psychopaths, which is a bigger problem than even stupidity.
More objective evidence that he very explicitly thinks he is above the law, all law. Basically academic at this point in time, but the regime will collapse some day and it will be important to take count.
The regime got this far because The Base is dumber than dogshit and incredibly willing to act against its own interest over and over again if it means they get to punch down on those they hate. Israel and its enforcers are operating in a euphoric mental state. For an abuser it’s a rush to be able to abuse people openly and get away with it, rather than having to conceal and twist logic. They know that so long as they have the paid for blessing of the United States and its bloated military, nobody can realistically hold them accountable.
We have IDF soldiers openly admitting to killing unarmed civilians on social media. It’s all euphoria and arrogance.
Without more context it’s hard to pass judgement. Were the victims hit by pass-through shots on the attacker or a wall? Did the firearms officer straight up miss? Were they using their handgun or their carbine?
The real difference will be if they hold the firearms officer accountable, for negligence if nothing else.
SOCOM has been doing almost nothing but counterinsurgency for the past 20-something years. Their purpose would probably be to hunt and kill people who do things like shoot conservative podcasters in the throat, particularly if instead of turning themselves in, they headed into the woods and became a fugitive who may have other targets planned.
Evading a police manhunt is one thing, evading a special operations death squad is another.
Like 2/3rds of Americans are overweight or obese. It’s probably the biggest crisis that faces our military readiness.

I seem to remember the secdef from Trump 1 relieving the captain of an aircraft carrier of his command because he made public that there was a COVID outbreak on board and no accommodations were being made. It culminated with Secdef Shitheel getting on the intercom of this carrier and belittling the former captain in front of the entire crew. There’s videos some of the crew took.
I don’t even remember this guy’s name, but I do remember that, like Hegseth, he had little military experience to speak of. Most of his career was corporate management or something.

I can’t decide whether Fox and Friends or The Five is the worst segment on Fox. Seems like they’re in competition for the title. The both of them are technically comedy or even satire segments, but of course they use that as a shield from criticism. “No reasonable person would take this seriously”, just like they argue in court when they get sued for the raw sewage they spew into public discourse.
But “Kill all of the homeless” and “destroy the UN and everyone who’s part of it” are only jokes if you find those actions amusing.
They’ll blame the parents, seriously. For entering illegally and “creating the situation.”
“The rule of law” and the people who carry it out are just forces of nature and have no free will or choice in the matter, let alone accountability, of course.
