When they eventually did build statues, they imported them from the north. They didn’t build them in their lifetime because it wasn’t a popular thing to do, and as such they literally didn’t have the skills or foundries to make them. Put yourself in the shoes of an average person. You go to a gas station and pay cash, your change is $1.23 and they give you a Trump coin and tell you that’s all in the register, what do you? You let the company keep your change? You take it and drive to a bank to exchange it?

You buy a water from a vending machine on a hot day, you put in a $5 bill and the machine gives you a couple Trump coins back, you throw them away? You give them back to the machine?

You may be able to avoid it, I don’t ever use USD cash, I’ll be able to avoid it, but the general public will be using it. If it proves unpopular like the 150 year anniversary coin that similarly carried a portrait of the sitting president, it’ll be removed from circulation and actually become a collectable that some moron will pay thousands for. If not, it’ll be used like any other coin.

Why? So H&R Block and TurboTax can make billions off you.

The government knows what you make, your employer reports it, your bank transactions report it, and the only income that truly depends on self reporting is cash “under the table” pay, which doesn’t get reported anyway…

The IRS takes an 0 interest loan from every American, makes them jump through hoops to fill various complicated forms or pay a company to do it, just to get your money that you loaned them back.

It’s a stupid system designed to create complex scenarios for rich people to pay less taxes, why are you all defending it exactly?

You should want something more reasonable like a flat tax, and use that to fund social safety nets so it doesn’t effect low income earners as much. Instead everyone is throwing insults to defend the IRS?

It was already designed to make you pay more taxes than the rich, there’s nothing to defend about it. It would be significantly cheaper for the IRS to simply tell you exactly what you owe out of every paycheck, and get away with the whole “filing” process.

The US commits (directly or through Israel) daily 9-11s, and given that 9-11 was motivated by American terrorism in the first place, the whole “never forget” can only work for the one comfortable generation that never experienced any other event like that.

The current generation sees what’s happening, they see the US bombing schools and weddings, and they see Americans commit mass shootings at events and at schools. If another 9-11 happened today, you’d have a much harder time getting everyone on board with invading another country for revenge.

They’d still get away with it probably, sadly, because Americans don’t seem to ever be ready to revolt. But I can’t imagine it would be the same unity.

Republicans are openly racist, they believe in hierarchy based on race. Democrats of today aren’t so racist, but both parties are classist. They believe in hierarchy of class, if you’re rich enough you deserve healthcare and housing and good education and clean drinking water, and and and. If you’re poor, they’ll use you as a talking point, but they’ll do whatever it takes to make it as difficult as possible to move up between classes.
